مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنْ جَدِّهِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ رَاشِدٍ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( عليه السلام ) إِنَّ اللَّهَ جَمِيلٌ يُحِبُّ الْجَمَالَ وَ يُحِبُّ أَنْ يَرَى أَثَرَ النِّعْمَةِ عَلَى عَبْدِهِ .
1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Qasim ibn Yahya from his grandfather al-Hassan ibn Rashid from abu Basir who has said the following: “Abu ‘ Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that ’Amir al-Mu’minin has said, ’Allah is beautiful, He loves beauty and He loves to see the signs of bounty on His servant.”’

عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ رَفَعَهُ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ إِذَا أَنْعَمَ اللَّهُ عَلَى عَبْدِهِ بِنِعْمَةٍ فَظَهَرَتْ عَلَيْهِ سُمِّيَ حَبِيبَ اللَّهِ مُحَدِّثاً بِنِعْمَةِ اللَّهِ وَ إِذَا أَنْعَمَ اللَّهُ عَلَى عَبْدٍ بِنِعْمَةٍ فَلَمْ تَظْهَرْ عَلَيْهِ سُمِّيَ بَغِيضَ اللَّهِ مُكَذِّباً بِنِعْمَةِ اللَّهِ .
2. Ali ibn Muhammad has narrated from in a marfu‘ manner the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has stated this Hadith. ‘If Allah grants a bounty to one of His servants and such bounty appears on him, he is called the friend of Allah who speaks of the bounty of Allah. If Allah grants a bounty to one of His servants but it does not appear on him, he is called the anger of Allah and denying the bounty of Allah.’”

مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ بَيَّاعِ الْقَلَانِسِ قَالَ مَرَّ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) عَلَى رَجُلٍ قَدِ ارْتَفَعَ صَوْتُهُ عَلَى رَجُلٍ يَقْتَضِيهِ شَيْئاً يَسِيراً فَقَالَ بِكَمْ تُطَالِبُهُ قَالَ بِكَذَا وَ كَذَا فَقَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) أَ مَا بَلَغَكَ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يُقَالُ لَا دِينَ لِمَنْ لَا مُرُوءَةَ لَهُ .
3. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Muhammad ibn Sinan from ‘Uqbah ibn Muhammad from Salmah ibn Muhammad Bayya’ al-Qalanisiy who has said the following: “Once, abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, passed by a man whose voice had become very loud on another person when demanding something very little from him. He (the Imam) asked, ‘How much do you demand from him?’ he replied, ‘So and so amount.’ Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, then said, ‘Have you not heard the saying, ‘One who has no kindness has no religion?”’

عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَسْبَاطٍ عَمَّنْ رَوَاهُ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ إِذَا أَنْعَمَ اللَّهُ عَلَى عَبْدِهِ بِنِعْمَةٍ أَحَبَّ أَنْ يَرَاهَا عَلَيْهِ لِأَنَّهُ جَمِيلٌ يُحِبُّ الْجَمَالَ .
4. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ali ibn Asbat from the one who narrated to him who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘When Allah grants a bounty to His servant He loves to see it on him; He is beautiful and loves beauty.’”

سَهْلُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ شَمُّونٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ مِسْمَعِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ أَبْصَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) رَجُلًا شَعِثاً شَعْرُ رَأْسِهِ وَسِخَةً ثِيَابُهُ سَيِّئَةً حَالُهُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) مِنَ الدِّينِ الْمُتْعَةُ وَ إِظْهَارُ النِّعْمَةِ .
5. Sahl ibn Ziyad has narrated from Muhammad ibn al-Hassan ibn Shammun from ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman from Misma‘ ibn ‘Abd al-Malik who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, once saw a man with his hairs untidy, his clothes dirty and his condition very bad. The Messenger of Allah said, ‘It is of religion to enjoy and allow the bounty to show.’”

وَ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) بِئْسَ الْعَبْدُ الْقَاذُورَةُ .
6. Through the same chain of narrators as that of the previous Hadith the following is narrated: “He (the Imam )’ Alayhi al-Salam has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘The worse servant is a dirty servant.’”

عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِهِ عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ وَهْبٍ قَالَ رَآنِي أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) وَ أَنَا أَحْمِلُ بَقْلًا فَقَالَ يُكْرَهُ لِلرَّجُلِ السَّرِيِّ أَنْ يَحْمِلَ الشَّيْءَ الدَّنِيَّ فَيُجْتَرَأَ عَلَيْهِ .
7. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from certain persons of his people from Mu‘awiyah ibn Wahab who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, once saw me carrying grass. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is undesirable for a man of dignity to carry lowly things, thus people become bold against him.’”

عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ حَدِيدٍ عَنْ مُرَازِمِ بْنِ حَكِيمٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى مَوْلَى آلِ سَامٍ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) إِنَّ النَّاسَ يَرْوُونَ أَنَّ لَكَ مَالًا كَثِيراً فَقَالَ مَا يَسُوؤُنِي ذَاكَ إِنَّ أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( عليه السلام ) مَرَّ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ عَلَى نَاسٍ شَتَّى مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ وَ عَلَيْهِ قَمِيصٌ مُخَرَّقٌ فَقَالُوا أَصْبَحَ عَلِيٌّ لَا مَالَ لَهُفَسَمِعَهَا أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( عليه السلام ) فَأَمَرَ الَّذِي يَلِي صَدَقَتَهُ أَنْ يَجْمَعَ تَمْرَهُ وَ لَا يَبْعَثَ إِلَى إِنْسَانٍ شَيْئاً وَ أَنْ يُوَفِّرَهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ لَهُ بِعْهُ الْأَوَّلَ فَالْأَوَّلَ وَ اجْعَلْهَا دَرَاهِمَ ثُمَّ اجْعَلْهَا حَيْثُ تَجْعَلُ التَّمْرَ فَاكْبِسْهُ مَعَهُ حَيْثُ لَا يُرَى وَ قَالَ لِلَّذِي يَقُومُ عَلَيْهِ إِذَا دَعَوْتُ بِالتَّمْرِ فَاصْعَدْ وَ انْظُرِ الْمَالَ فَاضْرِبْهُ بِرِجْلِكَ كَأَنَّكَ لَا تَعْمِدُ الدَّرَاهِمَ حَتَّى تَنْثُرَهَاثُمَّ بَعَثَ إِلَى رَجُلٍ مِنْهُمْ يَدْعُوهُمْ ثُمَّ دَعَا بِالتَّمْرِ فَلَمَّا صَعِدَ يَنْزِلُ بِالتَّمْرِ ضَرَبَ بِرِجْلِهِ فَنُثِرَتِ الدَّرَاهِمُ فَقَالُوا مَا هَذَا يَا أَبَا الْحَسَنِ فَقَالَ هَذَا مَالُ مَنْ لَا مَالَ لَهُ ثُمَّ أَمَرَ بِذَلِكَ الْمَالِ فَقَالَ انْظُرُوا أَهْلَ كُلِّ بَيْتٍ كُنْتُ أَبْعَثُ إِلَيْهِمْ فَانْظُرُوا مَالَهُ وَ ابْعَثُوا إِلَيْهِ .
8. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ali ibn Hadid from Murazim ibn Hakim from ‘Abd al-‘ A’la’ Mawla Ale Sam who has said the following: “I once said to abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, ‘People say you have a great wealth . 5 He (the Imam) said, ‘It does not affect me badly because ’Amir al-Mu’minin one day passed by different groups of Quraysh with a very old shirt on him and they said, ‘Ali has become very poor and has no assets . 5 ’Amir al-Mu 5 minin heard it. He then commanded the person in charge of charity to keep his share of dates, not to send to anyone but keep them. He (the Imam) then told him to sell to the first persons who wish to buy in exchange for dirham then place the dirhams as dates are placed, then hide them with dates so they are not seen. He then instructed the person in charge, “When I ask you for dates then climb on it, look at the asset and kick it with your foot as if you do not consider dirhams of any value and significance until they are scattered all over the place . 55 He (the Imam) then sent someone to call the people (who had called him very poor and without any assets). He (the Imam) then asked for dates. When he went to bring dates he kicked with his foot and dirhams scattered all over the place. They asked, ‘What is happening, O abu al-Hassan ? 5 He (the Imam) replied, ‘This is the assets of one who has become very poor and has no assets . 5 He (the Imam) then commanded to keep in mind the people to whom I have been sending dates. See how much were sent to each one then send that quantity to each one."

عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ رَفَعَهُ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) إِنِّي لَأَكْرَهُ لِلرَّجُلِ أَنْ يَكُونَ عَلَيْهِ نِعْمَةٌ مِنَ اللَّهِ فَلَا يُظْهِرَهَا .
9. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr in a marfu‘ manner has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘I dislike to see a man who has received a bounty from Allah but does not show it."

عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنْ جَدِّهِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ رَاشِدٍ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( عليه السلام ) لِيَتَزَيَّنْ أَحَدُكُمْ لِأَخِيهِ الْمُسْلِمِ كَمَا يَتَزَيَّنُ لِلْغَرِيبِ الَّذِي يُحِبُّ أَنْ يَرَاهُ فِي أَحْسَنِ الْهَيْئَةِ .
10. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Qasim ibn Yahya from his grandfather, al-Hassan ibn Rashid from abu Basir who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that ’Amir al-Mu 5 minin has said, ‘You must dress up for your Muslim brother just as you dress up before a stranger; the Muslim brother who likes to see him (his Muslim brother) in the best dress . 555

عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنِ ابْنِ فَضَّالٍ جَمِيعاً عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ يَعْقُوبَ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ قَالَ بَلَغَ أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( عليه السلام ) أَنَّ طَلْحَةَ وَ الزُّبَيْرَ يَقُولَانِ لَيْسَ لِعَلِيٍّ مَالٌ قَالَ فَشَقَّ ذَلِكَ عَلَيْهِ فَأَمَرَ وُكَلَاءَهُ أَنْ يَجْمَعُوا غَلَّتَهُ حَتَّى إِذَا حَالَ الْحَوْلُ أَتَوْهُ وَ قَدْ جَمَعُوا مِنْ ثَمَنِ الْغَلَّةِ مِائَةَ أَلْفِ دِرْهَمٍفَنُشِرَتْ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَى طَلْحَةَ وَ الزُّبَيْرِ فَأَتَيَاهُ فَقَالَ لَهُمَا هَذَا الْمَالُ وَ اللَّهِ لِي لَيْسَ لِأَحَدٍ فِيهِ شَيْءٌ وَ كَانَ عِنْدَهُمَا مُصَدَّقاً قَالَ فَخَرَجَا مِنْ عِنْدِهِ وَ هُمَا يَقُولَانِ إِنَّ لَهُ لَمَالًا .
11. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Mahbub from ibn Faddal all from Yunus ibn Ya’qub from abu Basir who has said the following: “’Amir al-Mu 5 minin, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, was informed that Talhah and Zubayr say, ‘Ali has no assets . 5 He (the Imam) said, ‘It troubled him and he commanded his agents to collect his share of grains. They followed his instruction until the end of the year, then they brought it to him and it was worth one hundred thousand dirhams. It was spread before him. He sent for Talhah and Zubayr. When they came he told them, “This asset by Allah belongs to me and no one has any share in it . 55 They had proof to verify it and they left saying, “He in fact does have assets . 55 5 55

عَنْهُ عَنِ ابْنِ فَضَّالٍ وَ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ يَعْقُوبَ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ إِنَّ أُنَاساً بِالْمَدِينَةِ قَالُوا لَيْسَ لِلْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) مَالٌ فَبَعَثَ الْحَسَنُ ( عليه السلام ) إِلَى رَجُلٍ بِالْمَدِينَةِ فَاسْتَقْرَضَ مِنْهُ أَلْفَ دِرْهَمٍ وَ أَرْسَلَ بِهَا إِلَى الْمُصَدِّقِ وَ قَالَ هَذِهِ صَدَقَةُ مَالِنَا فَقَالُوا مَا بَعَثَ الْحَسَنُ ( عليه السلام ) بِهَذِهِ مِنْ تِلْقَاءِ نَفْسِهِ إِلَّا وَ لَهُ مَالٌ .
12. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from ibn Faddal and ibn Mahbub from Yunus ibn Ya’qub from abu Basir who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that in al-Madinah people said, ‘Al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al- Salam, has no assets . 5 Al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, sent to a man in al-Madinah, borrowed one thousand dirham from him and sent it to the charity collector saying, ‘It is the charity due on our assets . 5 People said, ‘Al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has not sent it without a reason. This is because of a certain amount of assets ."

عَنْهُ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ حَدِيدٍ عَنْ مُرَازِمِ بْنِ حَكِيمٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى مَوْلَى آلِ سَامٍ قَالَ إِنَّ عَلِيَّ بْنَ الْحُسَيْنِ ( عليه السلام ) اشْتَدَّتْ حَالُهُ حَتَّى تَحَدَّثَ بِذَلِكَ أَهْلُ الْمَدِينَةِ فَبَلَغَهُ ذَلِكَ فَتَعَيَّنَ أَلْفَ دِرْهَمٍ ثُمَّ بَعَثَ بِهَا إِلَى صَاحِبِ الْمَدِينَةِ وَ قَالَ هَذِهِ صَدَقَةُ مَالِي .
13. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from Ali ibn Hadid from Murazim ibn Hakim from ‘ Abd al-‘A’la’ Mawla’Ale Sam who has said the following: “Ali ibn al-Husayn, ‘Alayhim al-Salam, lived in serious financial condition and people of al-Madinah began to speak about it. It came to his notice. He assigned one thousand dirham and sent it to the governor of al-Madinah saying, ‘It is the charity due on our assets.’”

عَنْهُ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنْ أَبِي شُعَيْبٍ الْمَحَامِلِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي هَاشِمٍ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ يُحِبُّ الْجَمَالَ وَ التَّجَمُّلَ وَ يُبْغِضُ الْبُؤْسَ وَ التَّبَاؤُسَ .
14. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Faddal from abu Shu’ayb al-Mahamiliy from abu Hashim from certain persons of our people who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, loves beauty and beautification and dislikes misery and wretchedness.’”

مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ عَنْ هَارُونَ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ بُرَيْدِ بْنِ مُعَاوِيَةَ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) لِعُبَيْدِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ إِظْهَارُ النِّعْمَةِ أَحَبُّ إِلَى اللَّهِ مِنْ صِيَانَتِهَا فَإِيَّاكَ أَنْ تَتَزَيَّنَ إِلَّا فِي أَحْسَنِ زِيِّ قَوْمِكَقَالَ فَمَا رُئِيَ عُبَيْدٌ إِلَّا فِي أَحْسَنِ زِيِّ قَوْمِهِ حَتَّى مَاتَ .
15. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Muhammad ibn al-Husayn, from Muhammad ibn Aslam from Harun ibn Muslim from Burayd ibn Mu‘awiyah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, once said to ‘Ubayd ibn Ziyad, ‘Showing the bounty is more beloved to Allah than its safekeeping. Therefore, you must live in your people with the best dress among them.’ He (the narrator) has said that ‘Ubayd was never seen except with the best dress among his people until he died.’”
