Quince

مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنْ جَدِّهِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ رَاشِدٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( عليه السلام ) أَكْلُ السَّفَرْجَلِ قُوَّةٌ لِلْقَلْبِ الضَّعِيفِ وَ يُطَيِّبُ الْمَعِدَةَ وَ يُذَكِّي الْفُؤَادَ وَ يُشَجِّعُ الْجَبَانَ .
1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Qasim ibn Yahya from his grandfather al-Hassan ibn Rashid who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that ’Amir al-Mu’minin has said, ’Eating quince strengthens the weak heart, cleanses the stomach, purifies the mind and emboldens the coward/”

عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّوْفَلِيِّ عَنِ السَّكُونِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ كَانَ جَعْفَرُ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) فَأُهْدِيَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) سَفَرْجَلٌ فَقَطَعَ مِنْهُ النَّبِيُّ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) قِطْعَةً وَ نَاوَلَهَا جَعْفَراً فَأَبَى أَنْ يَأْكُلَهَا فَقَالَ خُذْهَا وَ كُلْهَا فَإِنَّهَا تُذَكِّي الْقَلْبَ وَ تُشَجِّعُ الْجَبَانَوَ فِي رِوَايَةٍ أُخْرَى كُلْ فَإِنَّهُ يُصَفِّي اللَّوْنَ وَ يُحَسِّنُ الْوَلَدَ .
2. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from al-Nawfaliy from al-Sakuniy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that Ja‘far ibn abu Talib was with the Holy Prophet, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, and he presented quince to the Holy Prophet. The Holy Prophet cut one piece from it and gave it to Ja‘far but he declined to eat it. The Holy Prophet said, ‘Take and eat it. It makes the heart (mind) intelligent and emboldens a coward heart.’ In another Hadith it is said, ‘Eat it; it clears the color and beautifies the child (to be born).”’

الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُعَلَّى بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ رَفَعَهُ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ مَنْ أَكَلَ سَفَرْجَلَةً عَلَى الرِّيقِ طَابَ مَاؤُهُ وَ حَسُنَ وَلَدُهُ .
3. Al-Husayn ibn Muhammad has narrated from Mu‘alla’ ibn Muhammad in a marfu‘ manner who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘If one eats quince before breakfast his seed becomes fine and his child well-formed.’”

مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ بَزِيعٍ عَنْ عَمِّهِ حَمْزَةَ بْنِ بَزِيعٍ عَنْ أَبِي إِبْرَاهِيمَ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) لِجَعْفَرٍ يَا جَعْفَرُ كُلِ السَّفَرْجَلَ فَإِنَّهُ يُقَوِّي الْقَلْبَ وَ يُشَجِّعُ الْجَبَانَ .

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Muhammad ibn ’Isma‘il ibn Bazi‘ from his uncle Hamzah ibn Bazi‘ who has said the following: “Abu Ibrahim, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, said to Ja‘far, ‘O Ja‘far, eat quince; it strengthens the heart and emboldens the coward heart.’”

أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ جَمِيلِ بْنِ دَرَّاجٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ مَنْ أَكَلَ سَفَرْجَلَةً أَنْطَقَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ الْحِكْمَةَ عَلَى لِسَانِهِ أَرْبَعِينَ صَبَاحاً .
5. Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Hassan ibn Ali from Jamil ibn Darraj who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘If one eats quince Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, makes his tongue to speak wisdom for forty mornings.’”

مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ رُشَيْدٍ عَنْ مَرْوَكِ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ عَمَّنْ ذَكَرَهُ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ مَا بَعَثَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ نَبِيّاً إِلَّا وَ مَعَهُ رَائِحَةُ السَّفَرْجَلِ .
6. Muhammad ibn ‘Abd Allah ibn Ja‘far has narrated from his father from Ali ibn Sulayman ibn Rashid from Marwak ibn ‘Ubayd from those whom he has mentioned who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘There has not been any Prophet sent from Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, who did not have the fragrance of quince.’”

عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ عِدَّةٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَسْبَاطٍ عَنْ أَبِي مُحَمَّدٍ الْجَوْهَرِيِّ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ بْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ جَعْفَرَ بْنَ مُحَمَّدٍ ( عليه السلام ) يَقُولُ السَّفَرْجَلُ يَذْهَبُ بِهَمِّ الْحَزِينِ كَمَا تَذْهَبُ الْيَدُ بِعَرَقِ الْجَبِينِ .
7. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from A number of his people from Ali ibn Asbat from abu Muhammad al-Jawhariy from Sufyan ibn ‘Uyaynah who has said the following: “I once heard Ja‘far ibn Muhammad, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, saying, ‘Eating quince removes the intensity of sadness just as the hand wipes perspiration from the forehead.’”
