Shaving Certain Parts of the Head of a Newborn and Leaving other Parts

عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّوْفَلِيِّ عَنِ السَّكُونِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( عليه السلام ) لَا تَحْلِقُوا الصِّبْيَانَ الْقَزَعَ وَ الْقَزَعُ أَنْ يَحْلِقَ مَوْضِعاً وَ يَدَعَ مَوْضِعاً .
1. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from al-Nawfaliy from al-Sakuniy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that ’Amir al-Mu’minin has said, ’Do not shave the heads of children in al-Qaza‘ and al-Qaza‘ meaning to shave certain parts and leave other parts.’”

عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الْأَشْعَرِيِّ عَنِ ابْنِ الْقَدَّاحِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَكْرَهُ الْقَزَعَ فِي رُءُوسِ الصِّبْيَانِ وَ ذَكَرَ أَنَّ الْقَزَعَ أَنْ يُحْلَقَ الرَّأْسُ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا وَ يُتْرَكَ وَسَطُ الرَّأْسِ يُسَمَّى الْقَزَعَةَ .
2. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Abu Ja‘far ibn Muhammad al-Ash‘ariy from ibn al-Qaddah who has narrated the following: “Abu ‘ Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, disliked shaving the head of a child a little and leaving the top middle of the head unshaved, which is called a/-Qaza’.’”

عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّوْفَلِيِّ عَنِ السَّكُونِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ أُتِيَ النَّبِيُّ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) بِصَبِيٍّ يَدْعُو لَهُ وَ لَهُ قَنَازِعُ فَأَبَى أَنْ يَدْعُوَ لَهُ وَ أَمَرَ بِحَلْقِ رَأْسِهِ وَ أَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) بِحَلْقِ شَعْرِ الْبَطْنِ .

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ja‘far ibn Muhammad al-Ash‘ariy from ibn al-Qaddah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has stated this Hadith. ’Once a child was brought to the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, so that he (the Messenger of Allah) might pray for him but the child had Qanazi ‘ and he (the Messenger of Allah) refused to pray for him.
