2. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from al-Husayn ibn Sa‘id from al-Nadr ibn Suwayd from Muhammad ibn abu Hamzah from Shu’ayb al-Hadad who has said the following: “I once said to abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, ‘One of your followers offers greetings of peace to you and he wants to marry a woman who has agreed and he likes her due to certain matters about her and she has a husband who has divorced her three times on non-Sunnah basis. He dislikes marrying her without your instruction so you command him to do so. Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, said, ‘It is an issue of marriage and the matter of marriage is severe because from marriage are children and we maintain precaution, so he must not marry her.’”

3. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from Hafs ibn al-Bakhtariy from Ishaq ibn ‘Ammar who has said the following: “About the case of a man who divorces his wife three times and then another man wants to marry her and about what he must do, abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘He must wait until she experiences one cycle of menses; then he must go to the man who has divorced her and ask him in the presence of two people, ‘Have you divorced so and so?’ If he said, ‘Yes, I have divorced her, then he must leave her alone for three months, then propose to her for marriage.’”
