Serving Food in Marriage Ceremony

1- عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ وَالْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُعَلَّى بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ جَمِيعاً عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ الْوَشَّاءِ عَنْ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ الرِّضَا (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ إِنَّ النَّجَاشِيَّ لَمَّا خَطَبَ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) آمِنَةَ بِنْتَ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ فَزَوَّجَهُ دَعَا بِطَعَامٍ وَقَالَ إِنَّ مِنْ سُنَنِ الْمُرْسَلِينَ الإطْعَامَ عِنْدَ التَّزْوِيجِ.
1. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad and al-Husayn from Muhammad from Mu’alla’ ibn Muhammad all from al-Hassan ibn Ali al-Washsha’ who has said the following: “I once heard al-Rida’, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, saying, ‘When al-Najashiy proposed marriage on behalf of the Messenger of Allah to Aminah daughter of abu Sufyan and pronounced them wife and husband, he called for food and said, ‘It is of the Sunnah of the prophets to serve food at the time of getting married.’”

2- عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) حِينَ تَزَوَّجَ مَيْمُونَةَ بِنْتَ الْحَارِثِ أَوْلَمَ عَلَيْهَا وَأَطْعَمَ النَّاسَ الْحَيْسَ.
2. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Um ay r from Hisham ibn Salim who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that when the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, married Maymunah, daughter of al-Harith, he served food to people and it was mashed dates with the stones removed, with ghee.’”

3- عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ فَضَّالٍ رَفَعَهُ إِلَى أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ الْوَلِيمَةُ يَوْمٌ وَيَوْمَانِ مَكْرُمَةٌ وَثَلاثَةُ أَيَّامٍ رِيَاءٌ وَسُمْعَةٌ.
3. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Faddal in a marfu’ manner who has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Serving food in a wedding ceremony for one or two days is an honor ; but for three days (it) is a show-off and for the sake of publicity.’”

4- عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّوْفَلِيِّ عَنِ السَّكُونِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) الْوَلِيمَةُ أَوَّلَ يَوْمٍ حَقٌّ وَالثَّانِيَ مَعْرُوفٌ وَمَا زَادَ رِيَاءٌ وَسُمْعَةٌ.

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from al-Nawfaliy from al-Sakuniy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘Serving food in a wedding ceremony for the first day is a right, the second day is reasonable, and for more than this is a show-off and publicity.’”
