Rules for Women

1- عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ عَنِ الْحَلَبِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) أَنَّهُ قَرَأَ أَنْ يَضَعْنَ ثِيابَهُنَّ قَالَ الْخِمَارَ وَالْجِلْبَابَ قُلْتُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ مَنْ كَانَ فَقَالَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ مَنْ كَانَ غَيْرَ مُتَبَرِّجَةٍ بِزِينَةٍ فَإِنْ لَمْ تَفْعَلْ فَهُوَ خَيْرٌ لَهَا وَالزِّينَةُ الَّتِي يُبْدِينَ لَهُنَّ شَيْ‏ءٌ فِي الآيَةِ الأخْرَى.
1. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from Hammad ibn ‘Uthaman from af-Halabiy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, read the words of Allah, . . if they leave aside their garment,’ (24: 60) and said these words refer to veil and gown.’ I then asked, ‘In front of whom can they leave their garments aside?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It is in front of those before whom it is not considered a show off with beauty (see (24:31)); but if she did not leave them aside is better and the beautification which is permissible to expose is mentioned in another verse (of the book of Allah).”’ (24:31)

2- عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ الْقَوَاعِدُ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ لَيْسَ عَلَيْهِنَّ جُنَاحٌ أَنْ يَضَعْنَ ثِيَابَهُنَّ قَالَ تَضَعُ الْجِلْبَابَ وَحْدَهُ.
2. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from Muhammad ibn abu Hamzah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Of the rules about women one is that they can leave their garments aside and this refers to their gown only.’”

3- عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنِ الْعَلاءِ بْنِ رَزِينٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) فِي قَوْلِهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَالْقَواعِدُ مِنَ النِّساءِ اللاتِي لا يَرْجُونَ نِكاحاً مَا الَّذِي يَصْلُحُ لَهُنَّ أَنْ يَضَعْنَ مِنْ ثِيَابِهِنَّ قَالَ الْجِلْبَابُ.
3. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Mahbub from al-‘Ala’ ibn Razin from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “I once asked abu Ja’far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about the words of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, ‘Of the rules for women whose marriage age has expired,’ and that what kind of their garments is proper to leave aside?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It is just the gown.’”

4- عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ حَرِيزِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) أَنَّهُ قَرَأَ أَنْ يَضَعْنَ ثِيابَهُنَّ قَالَ الْجِلْبَابَ وَالْخِمَارَ إِذَا كَانَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ مُسِنَّةً.
4. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Hammad ibn ‘Isa from Hariz ibn ‘Abd Allah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, once read the words of Allah, ‘. . . that they can leave their garments aside’ (24:31) then said, ‘It is the gown and veil, if she is old.’”
