Detestable Matters for Women

1- عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّوْفَلِيِّ عَنِ السَّكُونِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ إِنَّ أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) نَهَى عَنِ الْقَنَازِعِ وَالْقُصَصِ وَنَقْشِ الْخِضَابِ عَلَى الرَّاحَةِ وَقَالَ إِنَّمَإ؛ هَلَكَتْ نِسَاءُ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ مِنْ قِبَلِ الْقُصَصِ وَنَقْشِ الْخِضَابِ.
1. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from af-Nawfafiy from af-Sakuniy who has said the following: “Abu ‘ Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that ’Amir al-Mu’minin, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, prohibited women from forming their hairs in raised portion at different parts of the head and hanging a part of their hairs on the forehead, drawings of dyes on their palms, saying that Israelite women were destroyed because of hanging hairs on their forehead and drawings of dyes on their palms.”’

2- عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ شَمُّونٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ مِسْمَعٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) لا تَحِلُّ لامْرَأَةٍ حَاضَتْ أَنْ تَتَّخِذَ قُصَّةً أَوْ جُمَّةً.
2. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Muhammad ibn al-Hassan Shammun from ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Abd al- Rahman from Misma’ who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘It is not lawful for a woman during her experiencing Hayd (menses) to form her hairs in a knot or allow a portion to hang down her forehead.’”

3- مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ النُّعْمَانِ عَنْ ثَابِتِ بْنِ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ قَالَ سُئِلَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) عَنِ النِّسَاءِ يَجْعَلْنَ فِي رُءُوسِهِنَّ الْقَرَامِلَ قَالَ يَصْلُحُ الصُّوفُ وَمَا كَانَ مِنْ شَعْرِ امْرَأَةٍ نَفْسِهَا وَكَرِهَ لِلْمَرْأَةِ أَنْ تَجْعَلَ الْقَرَامِلَ مِنْ شَعْرِ غَيْرِهَا فَإِنْ وَصَلَتْ شَعْرَهَا بِصُوْفٍ أَوْ بِشَعْرِ نَفْسِهَا فَلا يَضُرُّهَا.
3. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ali ibn al-Nu’man from Thabit ibn abu Sa‘id who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, was asked about women: if they can form their hair in loops and knots. He (the Imam) said, ‘It can be done from wool or her own hairs and it is Makruh (undesirable) for a woman to form loops and knots on her head from the hairs of other women; but if she joins her own hair with wool it is not harmful.’”

4- مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي هَاشِمٍ عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ مُكْرَمٍ عَنْ سَعْدٍ الإسْكَافِ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ سُئِلَ عَنِ الْقَرَامِلِ الَّتِي تَصْنَعُهَا النِّسَاءُ فِي رُءُوسِهِنَّ يَصِلْنَهُ بِشُعُورِهِنَّ فَقَالَ لا بَأْسَ عَلَى الْمَرْأَةِ بِمَا تَزَيَّنَتْ بِهِ لِزَوْجِهَا قَالَ فَقُلْتُ بَلَغَنَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) لَعَنَ الْوَاصِلَةَ وَالْمَوْصُولَةَ فَقَالَ لَيْسَ هُنَاكَ إِنَّمَا لَعَنَ رَسُولُ اللهِ (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) الْوَاصِلَةَ وَالْمَوْصُولَةَ الَّتِي تَزْنِي فِي شَبَابِهَا فَلَمَّا كَبِرَتْ قَادَتِ النِّسَاءَ إِلَى الرِّجَالِ فَتِلْكَ الْوَاصِلَةُ وَالْمَوْصُولَةُ.
4. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Muhammad ibn al-Husayn from ‘Abd al- Rahman abu Hashim from Salim ibn Mukram from Sa‘d al-Iskaf who has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, was asked about loops and knots that women form out of their hairs on their head and join it with their hairs. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not unlawful if it is for beautification before her husband.’ I then asked, ‘We are told that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, condemned the one who joins and the one joined with.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not about this case. The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, condemned the women who commits fornication when she is young; and when old she leads women to men for unlawful acts; thus, such woman is called, one who joins and the one who is joined, with are condemned.’”
