Lack of Virtue in Woman

1- عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنِ الثُّمَالِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) النَّاجِي مِنَ الرِّجَالِ قَلِيلٌ وَمِنَ النِّسَاءِ أَقَلُّ وَأَقَلُّ قِيلَ وَلِمَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ لأنَّهُنَّ كَافِرَاتُ الْغَضَبِ مُؤْمِنَاتُ الرِّضَا.
1. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Khalid from his father from Muhammad ibn Sinan from “Amr ibn Muslim from al-Thumaliy who has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘Of men very few find salvation and from women that number is even less and less.’ It was asked, ‘Why is it so O Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause?’ He (the Messenger of Allah) replied, because they are unbelievers in anger (in it they may act like unbelievers) and believers in consent.’”

2- عَنْهُ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْفُضَيْلِ عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ أَبِي عَمْرٍو الْجَلابِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) أَنَّهُ قَالَ لامْرَأَةِ سَعْدٍ هَنِيئاً لَكِ يَا خَنْسَاءُ فَلَوْ لَمْ يُعْطِكِ اللهُ شَيْئاً إِلا ابْنَتَكِ أُمَّ الْحُسَيْنِ لَقَدْ أَعْطَاكِ اللهُ خَيْراً كَثِيراً إِنَّمَا مَثَلُ الْمَرْأَةِ الصَّالِحَةِ فِي النِّسَاءِ كَمَثَلِ الْغُرَابِ الأعْصَمِ فِي الْغِرْبَانِ وَهُوَ الأبْيَضُ إِحْدَى الرِّجْلَيْنِ.
2. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from Muhammad ibn Ali from Muhammad ibn al-Fudayl from Sa‘d ibn abu “Amr al-Jallab who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, once said to the wife of Sa‘d, ‘How fortunate it is for you O Khansa’, if Allah will not give you anything else besides your daughter, mother of al-Husayn; still Allah has given you a great deal of good. The case of a virtuous woman among women is like an al- A‘sam crow among the crows. It is the one which has one white leg.’”

3- عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ حَفْصِ بْنِ الْبَخْتَرِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ مَثَلُ الْمَرْأَةِ الْمُؤْمِنَةِ مَثَلُ الشَّامَةِ فِي الثَّوْرِ الأسْوَدِ.
3. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘ Umayr from Hafs ibn al-Bakhtariy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘The existence of a believing woman (in rarity) is like shammah (a bright mark) on the body of a black bull.’”

4- أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْعَاصِمِيُّ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَسْبَاطٍ عَنْ عَمِّهِ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ سَالِمٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) إِنَّمَا مَثَلُ الْمَرْأَةِ الصَّالِحَةِ مَثَلُ الْغُرَابِ الأعْصَمِ الَّذِي لا يَكَادُ يُقْدَرُ عَلَيْهِ قِيلَ وَمَا الْغُرَابُ الأعْصَمُ الَّذِي لا يَكَادُ يُقْدَرُ عَلَيْهِ قَالَ الأبْيَضُ إِحْدَى رِجْلَيْهِ.
4. Ahmad ibn Muhammad al-‘Asemiy has narrated from Ali ibn al-Hassan ibn Faddal from Ali ibn Asbat from his uncle, Ya’qub ibn Salim from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘The existence of a virtuous woman is like an al-A‘sam crow which is so rare to find.’ It was asked, ‘What is an al- A‘sam crow?’ He (the Messenger of Allah) replied, ‘It is that which is very rare to find.’ He (the Messenger of Allah) said, ‘It is the one which has one white leg.’”

5- مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنِ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنِ ابْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِهِ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) مَا لإبْلِيسَ جُنْدٌ أَعْظَمُ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ وَالْغَضَبِ.
5. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ’Isa from ibn Mahbub from ibn Sinan from certain persons of his people who have said the following: “Abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘No other thing serves Satan as the greatest army as women and anger do.’”

6- عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الْبَرْقِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَلِيٍّ الْوَاسِطِيِّ رَفَعَهُ إِلَى أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ إِنَّ الْمَرْأَةَ إِذَا كَبِرَتْ ذَهَبَ خَيْرُ شَطْرَيْهَا وَبَقِيَ شَرُّهُمَا ذَهَبَ جَمَالُهَا وَعَقِمَ رَحِمُهَا وَاحْتَدَّ لِسَانُهَا.
6. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Barqiy from abu Ali al-Wasitiy in a marfu’ manner who has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘When woman becomes old both parts of her goodness vanish and both parts of wickedness remain. Her beauty goes and she becomes barren and her tongue becomes very sharp.’”
