There is No Particular Du’a or Salam in Salah (Prayer) for a Dead Body

1ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ أُذَيْنَةَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ وَزُرَارَةَ وَمَعْمَرِ بْنِ يَحْيَى وَإِسْمَاعِيلَ الْجُعْفِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ لَيْسَ فِي الصَّلاَةِ عَلَى الْمَيِّتِ قِرَاءَةٌ وَلاَ دُعَاءٌ مُوَقَّتٌ تَدْعُو بِمَا بَدَا لَكَ وَأَحَقُّ الْمَوْتَى أَنْ يُدْعَى لَهُ الْمُؤْمِنُ وَأَنْ يَبْدَأَ بِالصَّلاَةِ عَلَى رَسُولِ الله (صلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه).
1. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from ibn ’Udhaynah from Muhammad ibn Muslim and Zurarah from and Mu’ammar ibn Yahya and ’Isma‘il al-Ju’fiy who has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘There is no particularly prescribed prayer to say in Salah (prayer) for a deceased. You can pray whatever prayer you like; and the most deserving is the believing person who has just died and that such prayer begins with prayer for the Messenger of Allah by saying, ‘O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause.’”

2ـ عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الله بْنِ مُسْكَانَ عَنِ الْحَلَبِيِّ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) لَيْسَ فِي الصَّلاَةِ عَلَى الْمَيِّتِ تَسْلِيمٌ.
2. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Muhammad ibn Sinan from ’Abd Allah ibn Muskan from al-Halabiy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘There is no Salam (the phrase of offering greeting of peace) to end Salah (prayer) for a deceased.’”
