Cutting of Nails and Hairs of Dead Person Undesirable

1ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِهِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ لاَ يُمَسُّ مِنَ الْمَيِّتِ شَعْرٌ وَلاَ ظُفُرٌ وَإِنْ سَقَطَ مِنْهُ شَيْءٌ فَاجْعَلْهُ فِي كَفَنِهِ.
1. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from certain persons of his people who has said the following: “Abu ’Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Nothing of the hairs or nails of a deceased is touched and if any of such things fall off, you must place them in his shroud.’”

2ـ عَنْهُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الله بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ عَنْ غِيَاثٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ كَرِهَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ (صلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) أَنْ تُحْلَقَ عَانَةُ الْمَيِّتِ إِذَا غُسِّلَ أَوْ يُقَلَّمَ لَهُ ظُفُرٌ أَوْ يُجَزَّ لَهُ شَعْرٌ.
2. It is a narration from him (narrator of previous Hadith) by his father from ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Mughirah from Ghiyath who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has stated this Hadith. ‘’Amir al-Mu’minin, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that it is detestable to shave a dead persons’ pubic hair, when giving Ghusl (bath), cut his nails or trim his hairs.’”

3ـ عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مِهْزَمٍ عَنْ طَلْحَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ كُرِهَ أَنْ يُقَصَّ مِنَ الْمَيِّتِ ظُفُرٌ أَوْ يُقَصَّ لَهُ شَعْرٌ أَوْ تُحْلَقَ لَهُ عَانَةٌ أَوْ يُغْمَضَ لَهُ مَفْصِلٌ.
3. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from ibn Mahbub from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahziyar from Talhah ibn Zayd who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Cutting the fingernails of a dead person, trimming hairs or shaving pubic hairs or softening body joints are detested matters.’”

4ـ حُمَيْدُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الْكِنْدِيِّ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ الْمِيثَمِيِّ عَنْ أَبَانِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) عَنِ الْمَيِّتِ يَكُونُ عَلَيْهِ الشَّعْرُ فَيُحْلَقُ عَنْهُ أَوْ يُقَلَّمُ قَالَ لاَ يُمَسُّ مِنْهُ شَيْءٌ اغْسِلْهُ وَادْفِنْهُ.

Humayd ibn Ziyad has narrated from al-Hassan ibn Muhammad al-Kindiy from Ahmad ibn al-Hassan al-Mithamiy from Aban ibn ‘Uthman from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn abu ‘Abd Allah who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about the case of a dead person whose body has hairs if it is required to shave or trim them. He (the Imam) said, ‘Nothing as such must be touched. Just give him Ghusl (bath) and bury.’”
