12 hadiths
1
1ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ أَبِي الْعَلاءِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) قَالَ إِنَّ الله عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لَمْ يَبْعَثْ نَبِيّاً إِلا بِصِدْقِ الْحَدِيثِ وَأَدَاءِ الأمَانَةِ إِلَى الْبَرِّ وَالْفَاجِرِ.
1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Ali ibn al-Hakam from al-Husayn ibn abu al-‘Ala’ from abu ‘Abd Allah recipient of divine supreme covenant who has said the following: “Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, has not sent any prophet who would not be truthful in their words and trustworthy in returning the trust without discriminating between virtuous or otherwise people.”

2ـ عَنْهُ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ عَمَّارٍ وَغَيْرِهِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) قَالَ لا تَغْتَرُّوا بِصَلاتِهِمْ وَلا بِصِيَامِهِمْ فَإِنَّ الرَّجُلَ رُبَّمَا لَهِجَ بِالصَّلاةِ وَالصَّوْمِ حَتَّى لَوْ تَرَكَهُ اسْتَوْحَشَ وَلَكِنِ اخْتَبِرُوهُمْ عِنْدَ صِدْقِ الْحَدِيثِ وَأَدَاءِ الأمَانَةِ.
2. It is narrated from him (narrator of the Hadith above) from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Isa from Ishaq ibn ‘Ammar and others from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘Do not allow their prayers or fasts mislead you. A man may develop an attachment to praying or fasting so much so that without it he may feel frightened. Try them how truthful they are in their words or how reliable they are in returning the trust.’”

3ـ عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجْرَانَ عَنْ مُثَنًّى الْحَنَّاطِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) قَالَ مَنْ صَدَقَ لِسَانُهُ زَكَى عَمَلُهُ.
3. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from ibn abu Najaran from Muthanna al-Hannat from Muhammad ibn Muslim from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘Whoever’s tongue is truthful; his deeds are clean and pure.’”

4ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ سَعْدَانَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الله بْنِ الْقَاسِمِ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ أَبِي الْمِقْدَامِ قَالَ قَالَ لِي أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) فِي أَوَّلِ دَخْلَةٍ دَخَلْتُ عَلَيْهِ تَعَلَّمُوا الصِّدْقَ قَبْلَ الْحَدِيثِ.
4. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Muhammad ibn al-Husayn from Musa ibn Sa’dan from ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Qasim from ‘Amr ibn abu al-Miqdam who has said the following: “The first time I met abu Ja’far (a.s.) he said to me, ‘Learn to speak the truth before narrating al-Hadith (statements of the Holy prophet and ‘ A’immah ).’”

5ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ أَبِي كَهْمَسٍ قَالَ قُلْتُ لأبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) عَبْدُ الله بْنُ أَبِي يَعْفُورٍ يُقْرِئُكَ السَّلامَ قَالَ عَلَيْكَ وَعَلَيْهِ السَّلامُ إِذَا أَتَيْتَ عَبْدَ الله فَأَقْرِئْهُ السَّلامَ وَقُلْ لَهُ إِنَّ جَعْفَرَ بْنَ مُحَمَّدٍ يَقُولُ لَكَ انْظُرْ مَا بَلَغَ بِهِ عَلِيٌّ (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) عِنْدَ رَسُولِ الله (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وآلِه) فَالْزَمْهُ فَإِنَّ عَلِيّاً (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) إِنَّمَا بَلَغَ مَا بَلَغَ بِهِ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ الله (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وآلِه) بِصِدْقِ الْحَدِيثِ وَأَدَاءِ الأمَانَةِ.
5. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from al-Hassan ibn Mahbub from abu Kahmas who has said the following: “Once I said to Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) “Abd Allah ibn abu Ya’fur has sent you ( salam ) greetings.’ The Imam said, ‘May salam (peace) be with you and with him. If you meet ‘Abd Allah convey salam to him and say, ‘Ja’far, son of Muhammad, says to you, “Consider to what level Ali (Amir al-Mu’minin ibn abu Talib) had reached before the Messenger of Allah. You must follow his manners. Ali (a.s.) reached the level that he reached before the Messenger of Allah because of the truthfulness in his words and his trustworthiness in returning the trust.’””

6ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْمَاعِيلَ الْبَصْرِيِّ عَنْ فُضَيْلِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) يَا فُضَيْلُ إِنَّ الصَّادِقَ أَوَّلُ مَنْ يُصَدِّقُهُ الله عَزَّ وَجَلَّ يَعْلَمُ أَنَّهُ صَادِقٌ وَتُصَدِّقُهُ نَفْسُهُ تَعْلَمُ أَنَّهُ صَادِقٌ.
6. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from abu Isma’il al-Basri from Fudayl ibn Yasar who has said the following: “Once Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) said to me, ‘O Fudayl, the truthfulness of a truthful person is first verified by Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy. He knows that he is truthful. Then his own soul confirms; it knows his truthfulness.’”

7ـ ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ مَنْصُورِ بْنِ حَازِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) قَالَ إِنَّمَا سُمِّيَ إِسْمَاعِيلُ صَادِقَ الْوَعْدِ لأنَّهُ وَعَدَ رَجُلاً فِي مَكَانٍ فَانْتَظَرَهُ فِي ذَلِكَ الْمَكَانِ سَنَةً فَسَمَّاهُ الله عَزَّ وَجَلَّ صَادِقَ الْوَعْدِ ثُمَّ قَالَ إِنَّ الرَّجُلَ أَتَاهُ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ لَهُ إِسْمَاعِيلُ مَا زِلْتُ مُنْتَظِراً لَكَ.
7. Ibn abu ‘Umayr has narrated from Mansur ibn Hazim from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) who has said the following: “Isma’il is called the truthful in his promises; he promised a man to meet him at a certain place and Isma’il waited for him at that place for one year. Thus, Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, named him the truthful in his promise. The Imam then said, ‘The man then came at that place and Isma’il said to him, “I am still waiting for you.’””

8ـ أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الأشْعَرِيُّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ النَّضْرِ الْخَزَّازِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ قَالَ قَالَ لِي أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) يَا رَبِيعُ إِنَّ الرَّجُلَ لَيَصْدُقُ حَتَّى يَكْتُبَهُ الله صِدِّيقاً.
8. Abu Ali al-Ash’ari has narrated from Muhammad ibn Salim from Ahmad ibn al- Nadr al-Khazzaz from his grandfather al-Rabi’ ibn Sa’d who has said the following: “Once abu Ja’far (a.s.) said to me, ‘O Rab’i, a man must keep speaking the truth until Allah writes him down as a truthful one.’”

9ـ عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْوَشَّاءِ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) يَقُولُ إِنَّ الْعَبْدَ لَيَصْدُقُ حَتَّى يُكْتَبَ عِنْدَ الله مِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ وَيَكْذِبُ حَتَّى يُكْتَبَ عِنْدَ الله مِنَ الْكَاذِبِينَ فَإِذَا صَدَقَ قَالَ الله عَزَّ وَجَلَّ صَدَقَ وَبَرَّ وَإِذَا كَذَبَ قَالَ الله عَزَّ وَجَلَّ كَذَبَ وَفَجَرَ.
9. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al- Washsha’ from Ali ibn abu Hamza from abu Basir who has said the following: “I heard Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) saying, ‘A servant (of Allah) may keep speaking the truth until he is written among the truthful ones before Allah or keep speaking lies until he is written in the (list of) liars before Allah. If a man speaks the truth, Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, will say, “He has spoken the truth and has acted virtuously.” If one speaks lies, Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, will say, “He has lied and has committed evil.’””

10ـ عَنْهُ عَنِ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنِ الْعَلاءِ بْنِ رَزِينٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الله بْنِ أَبِي يَعْفُورٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) قَالَ كُونُوا دُعَاةً لِلنَّاسِ بِالْخَيْرِ بِغَيْرِ أَلْسِنَتِكُمْ لِيَرَوْا مِنْكُمُ الإجْتِهَادَ وَالصِّدْقَ وَالْوَرَعَ.
10. It is narrated from him (narrator of the Hadith above) from ibn Mahbub from al- ‘Ala’ ibn Razin from ‘Abd Allah ibn abu Ya’fur from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘Preach and call people to the good, but not with your tongues. They must see from your hard work, truthfulness and restraint from worldly matters (sins).’”

11ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ حَسَنُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ الصَّيْقَلُ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) مَنْ صَدَقَ لِسَانُهُ زَكَى عَمَلُهُ وَمَنْ حَسُنَتْ نِيَّتُهُ زِيدَ فِي رِزْقِهِ وَمَنْ حَسُنَ بِرُّهُ بِأَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ مُدَّ لَهُ فِي عُمُرِهِ.
11. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Ali ibn al-Hakam who has said that abu al-Walid, Hassan ibn Ziyad al-Sayqal has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘Making one’s tongue speak the truth purifies one’s deeds. Having good intentions increases one’s livelihood. One who betters his kind deeds toward his family is granted longevity in his life.’”

12ـ عَنْهُ عَنْ أَبِي طَالِبٍ رَفَعَهُ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) لا تَنْظُرُوا إِلَى طُولِ رُكُوعِ الرَّجُلِ وَسُجُودِهِ فَإِنَّ ذَلِكَ شَيْءٌ اعْتَادَهُ فَلَوْ تَرَكَهُ اسْتَوْحَشَ لِذَلِكَ وَلَكِنِ انْظُرُوا إِلَى صِدْقِ حَدِيثِهِ وَأَدَاءِ أَمَانَتِهِ.
12. It is narrated from him (narrator of the Hadith above) from abu Talib in a marfu’ manner from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘Do not look to the long Ruku’ (bowing down on one’s knees for prayer) and Sajda (prostrating in prayer) of a man. It may have become his routine; without it he may feel frightened, but look to the truthfulness in his words and his credibility in keeping the trust.’”
