Reward of repenting

حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الصَّفَّارُ عَنِ الْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ مَعْرُوفٍ عَنِ النَّوْفَلِیِّ عَنِ السَّکُونِیِّ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَبِیهِ عَنْ آبَائِهِ ع قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص لِکُلِّ دَاءٍ دَوَاءٌ وَ دَوَاءُ الذُّنُوبِ الِاسْتِغْفَارُ.
1. The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) said, “There is a cure for every malady and the cure of sins is repentance.”

أَبِی ره قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی سَعْدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنِ الْحُسَیْنِ بْنِ عَلِیٍّ عَنْ عِیسَی بْنِ هِشَامٍ عَنْ سَلَّامٍ الْحَنَّاطِ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ: مَنِ اسْتَغْفَرَ اللَّهَ مِائَهَ مَرَّهٍ حِینَ یَنَامُ بَاتَ وَ قَدْ تَحَاتَّتِ الذُّنُوبُ کُلُّهَا عَنْهُ کَمَا تَتَحَاتُّ الْوَرَقُ مِنَ الشَّجَرِ وَ یُصْبِحُ وَ لَیْسَ عَلَیْهِ ذَنْبٌ.
2. My father (rah) said: it was narrated to me by Sa’d b. Abdillah from al-Hussain b. Ali from Isa b. Hisham from Salam al-Hannat from Abi Abdillah (a.s.) who said: “One who seeks the forgiveness of Allah a hundred times at bedtime all his sins are destroyed like dry leaves of a tree fall off and none of his sins remains in the morning.”

حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِیٍّ مَاجِیلَوَیْهِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ یَحْیَی عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ عَنْ مُوسَی بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِیِّ بْنِ نُوحٍ عَنْ صَالِحِ بْنِ عُقْبَهَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الْجُعْفِیِّ عَنْ أَبِی جَعْفَرٍ ع قَالَ سَمِعْتُهُ یَقُولُ کَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص یَقُولُ مُقَامِی فِیکُمْ وَ الِاسْتِغْفَارُ لَکُمْ حِصْنٌ حَصِینٌ مِنَ الْعَذَابِ فَمَضَی أَکْثَرُ الْحِصْنَیْنِ وَ بَقِیَ الِاسْتِغْفَارُ فَأَکْثِرُوا مِنْهُ فَإِنَّهُ مَمْحَاهٌ لِلذُّنُوبِ قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ- وَ ما کانَ اللَّهُ لِیُعَذِّبَهُمْ وَ أَنْتَ فِیهِمْ وَ ما کانَ اللَّهُ مُعَذِّبَهُمْ وَ هُمْ یَسْتَغْفِرُونَ
3. It is narrated from Imam Muhammad Baqir (a.s.) that the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) said, “My presence among you and your repentance is a strong fortress to remain safe from chastisement.” Imam said, “Now our great protection is no longer with the world and the only thing remaining is repentance. So repent a lot for it wipes sins as Almighty Allah says: But Allah was not going to chastise them while you were among them, nor is Allah going to chastise them while yet they ask for forgiveness.”15

أَبِی ره قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی سَعْدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنِ الْهَیْثَمِ بْنِ أَبِی مَسْرُوقٍ النَّهْدِیِّ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِیلَ بْنِ سَهْلٍ قَالَ: کَتَبْتُ إِلَی أَبِی جَعْفَرٍ ع عَلِّمْنِی شَیْئاً إِذَا أَنَا قُلْتُهُ کُنْتُ مَعَکُمْ فِی الدُّنْیَا وَ الْآخِرَهِ قَالَ فَکَتَبَ بِخَطٍّ أَعْرِفُهُ أَکْثِرْ مِنْ تِلَاوَهِ إِنَّا أَنْزَلْنَاهُ وَ رَطِّبْ شَفَتَیْکَ بِالاسْتِغْفَارِ.
4. My father (rah) said: it was narrated to me by Sa’d b. Abdillah from al-Haytham b. Abi Masruq al-Hindi from Ismail b. Sahl who said: The narrator wrote to Imam Muhammad Baqir (a.s.) to let him know those deeds, which will keep him along with Imam (a.s.) in this world and the hereafter. Imam (a.s.) replied, “Recite Innaa anzalnaa (Surah Qadr) extensively and your tongue should not stop from repenting.”

أَبِی ره عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ عَنْ هَارُونَ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ مَسْعَدَهَ بْنِ صَدَقَهَ عَنْ جَعْفَرٍ الصَّادِقِ عَنْ أَبِیهِ عَنْ آبَائِهِ ع قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص طُوبَی لِمَنْ وَجَدَ فِی صَحِیفَتِهِ یَوْمَ الْقِیَامَهِ تَحْتَ کُلِّ ذَنْبٍ أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ.
5. Imam Muhammad (a.s.) narrates that the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) said, “One who has Astaghfirullaah written under each of his sin on the Day of Judgment is indeed fortunate.”
