Reward of giving Sadaqah

أَبِی ره قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ یَحْیَی الْعَطَّارُ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ اللُّؤْلُؤِیِّ رَفَعَهُ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شِمْرٍ عَنْ جَابِرٍ عَنْ أَبِی جَعْفَرٍ ع قَالَ: عَبَدَ اللَّهَ عَابِدٌ ثَمَانِینَ سَنَهً ثُمَّ أَشْرَفَ عَلَی امْرَأَهٍ فَوَقَعَتْ فِی نَفْسِهِ فَنَزَلَ إِلَیْهَا فَرَاوَدَهَا عَنْ نَفْسِهَا فَطَاوَعَتْهُ فَلَمَّا قَضَی مِنْهَا حَاجَتَهُ طَرَقَ مَلَکُ الْمَوْتِ فَاعْتُقِلَ لِسَانُهُ فَمَرَّ سَائِلٌ فَأَشَارَ إِلَیْهِ أَنْ خُذْ رَغِیفاً کَانَ فِی کِسَائِهِ فَأَحْبَطَ اللَّهُ عَمَلَ ثَمَانِینَ سَنَهً بِتِلْکَ الزِّنْیَهِ وَ غَفَرَ اللَّهُ لَهُ بِذَلِکَ الرَّغِیفِ.
1. My father (rah) said: it was narrated to me by Muhammad b. Yahya al-’Attar from Muhammad b. Ahmad from al-Hassan b. al-Hassan al-Lu’lu’ee who raised it to from ’Amru b. Shimr from Jabir from Abi Ja’far (a.s.) who said: “A worshipper prayed to Allah for eighty years. Then he fell in love with a woman and fulfilled his desires with her. When the angel of death approached him, he became mute. A beggar happened to pass by. That person pointed out the beggar to take the piece of bread lying in his pocket. The Almighty Allah had destroyed his worship of eighty years due to the adultery committed by him but He forgave him for offering that piece of bread.”

حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الصَّفَّارُ عَنِ الْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ مَعْرُوفٍ عَنِ ابْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ طَلْحَهَ بْنِ زَیْدٍ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الصَّادِقِ ع عَنْ أَبِیهِ ع قَالَ: أَوَّلُ مَا یُبْدَأُ یَوْمَ الْقِیَامَهِ صَدَقَهُ الْمَاءِ.
2. It was narrated to me by Muhammad b. al-Hassan who said it was narrated to us by Muhammad b. al-Hassan al-Saffar from al-Abbas b. Ma’ruf from Ibn Sinan from Talha b. Zayd from Ja’far b. Muhammad al-Sadiq (a.s.) from his father (a.s.) who said: “My father used to say that the first deed to be rewarded on the Day of Judgment is offering water as Sadaqah.”

حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِیٍّ مَاجِیلَوَیْهِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ الْحُسَیْنِ عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ بَیَّاعِ الْهَرَوِیِّ قَالَ: کُنْتُ عِنْدَ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع فَذَکَرُوا الْوَجَعَ فَقَالَ دَاوُوا مَرْضَاکُمْ بِالصَّدَقَهِ وَ مَا عَلَی أَحَدِکُمْ أَنْ یَتَصَدَّقَ بِقُوتِ یَوْمِهِ إِنَّ مَلَکَ الْمَوْتِ یُرْفَعُ إِلَیْهِ الصَّکُّ بِقَبْضِ رُوحِ الْعَبْدِ فَیَتَصَدَّقُ فَیُقَالُ لَهُ رُدَّ عَلَیْهِ الصَّکَّ.
3. The narrator was present near Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s.) when there was a discussion about illness. Imam said, “Treat your illness with Sadaqah. Why don’t you offer a day’s food as Sadaqah? If the angel of death is ordered to take out the soul of a person and he pays Sadaqah, the angel of death is told to return.”

حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُوسَی بْنِ الْمُتَوَکِّلِ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِیمَ عَنْ أَبِیهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَیْمُونٍ الْقَدَّاحِ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الصَّادِقِ عَنْ أَبِیهِ ع قَالَ: قَالَ النَّبِیُّ ص لِرَجُلٍ أَصْبَحْتَ صَائِماً قَالَ لَا قَالَ فَعُدْتَ مَرِیضاً قَالَ لَا قَالَ فَاتَّبَعْتَ جَنَازَهً قَالَ لَا قَالَ فَأَطْعَمْتَ مِسْکِیناً قَالَ لَا قَالَ فَارْجِعْ إِلَی أَهْلِکَ فَأَصِبْهُمْ فَإِنَّهُ عَلَیْهِمْ مِنْکَ صَدَقَهٌ.
4. It was narrated to me by Muhammad b. Musa b. al-Mutawakil from Ibrahim from his father from Abdillah b. Maymun al-Qadah from Ja’far b. Muhammad al-Sadiq from his father (a.s.) who said: “No.” The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) asked, “Did you feed a poor?” He replied, “No.” The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) told him, “Go to your family and kiss them. It will be Sadaqah for them.”

أَبِی ره قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ إِدْرِیسَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ عَنْ یَعْقُوبَ بْنِ یَزِیدَ قَالَ وَجَدْتُ فِی کِتَابِ ابْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنْ أَبِی الْبَخْتَرِیِّ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ: إِسْمَاعُ الْأَصَمِّ مِنْ غَیْرِ تَضَجُّرٍ صَدَقَهٌ هَنِیئَهٌ.
5. My father (rah) said: it was narrated to us by Ahmad b. Idris from Muhammad b. Ahmad from Ya’qub b. Yazid who said I found in the book of Ibn Fadhal from Abi al-Bukhtari from Abi Abdillah (a.s.) who said: “Making a deaf understand something without getting irritated is also a good charity.”

حَدَّثَنِی الْحَسَنُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ عَنْ أَبِیهِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِیمَ بْنِ هَاشِمٍ عَنْ مُوسَی بْنِ أَبِی الْحَسَنِ عَنِ الرِّضَا ع قَالَ: ظَهَرَ فِی بَنِی إِسْرَائِیلَ قَحْطٌ شَدِیدٌ سِنِینَ مُتَوَاتِرَهً وَ کَانَ عِنْدَ امْرَأَهٍ لُقْمَهٌ مِنْ خُبْزٍ فَوَضَعَتْهَا فِی فِیهَا لِتَأْکُلَ فَنَادَی السَّائِلُ یَا أَمَهَ اللَّهِ الْجُوعُ فَقَالَتِ الْمَرْأَهُ أَتَصَدَّقُ فِی مِثْلِ هَذَا الزَّمَانِ فَأَخْرَجَتْهَا مِنْ فِیهَا فَدَفَعَتْهَا إِلَی السَّائِلِ وَ کَانَ لَهَا وَلَدٌ صَغِیرٌ یَحْطِبُ فِی الصَّحْرَاءِ فَجَاءَ الذِّئْبُ فَاحْتَمَلَهُ فَوَقَعَتِ الصَّیْحَهُ فَعَدَتِ الْأُمُّ فِی أَثَرِ الذِّئْبِ فَبَعَثَ اللَّهُ إِلَیْهِ تَبَارَکَ وَ تَعَالَی جَبْرَئِیلَ ع فَأَخْرَجَ الْغُلَامَ مِنْ فَمِ الذِّئْبِ فَدَفَعَهُ إِلَی أُمِّهِ فَقَالَ لَهَا جَبْرَئِیلُ ع یَا أَمَهَ اللَّهِ أَ رَضِیتِ لُقْمَهً بِلُقْمَهٍ.
6. It was narrated to me by al-Hassan b. Ahmad from his father from Muhammad b. Ahmad b. Ibrahim b. Hashim from Musa b. Abi al-Hassan from al-Ridha (a.s.) who said: Imam Ridha (a.s.) narrates that there was drought in Bani Israel for many years at a stretch. A woman kept a morsel in her mouth. A beggar passed by and called out, “O woman! I am hungry.” The woman thought that she should offer Sadaqah and took out the morsel from her mouth and gave it to the beggar. The woman had a young child who had gone to collect some firewood in the forest. A wolf picked the child up and started running away. The woman started chasing that wolf. Allah sent Jibraeel at that time and he took the child from wolf and returned him to his mother and told her, “O woman! Are you happy to get the return of that morsel through this one?”

أَبِی ره قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سَعْدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِی الْخَزْرَجِ عَنْ فُضَیْلِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ: مَنْ تَصَدَّقَ فِی یَوْمٍ أَوْ لَیْلَهٍ إِنْ کَانَ یَوْمٌ فَیَوْمٌ وَ إِنْ کَانَ لَیْلَهٌ فَلَیْلٌ دَفَعَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ عَنْهُ الْهَمَّ وَ السَّبُعَ وَ مِیتَهَ السَّوْءِ.
7. Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s.) said, “Allah keeps away from sorrow, wild animals and unpleasant death one who gives charity during the day or night.”

أَبِی ره عَنْ عَلِیِّ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِیمَ عَنْ أَبِیهِ عَنِ النَّوْفَلِیِّ عَنِ السَّکُونِیِّ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الصَّادِقِ عَنْ آبَائِهِ ع قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص الصَّدَقَهُ تَمْنَعُ مِیتَهَ السَّوْءِ.
8. Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s.) narrates from his predecessors that the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) said, “Sadaqah keeps one away from unpleasant death.”

حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الصَّفَّارُ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِیٍّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْفُضَیْلِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ زَیْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ الْبَتُولِیِّ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الصَّادِقِ عَنْ آبَائِهِ ع قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص أَرْضُ الْقِیَامَهِ نَارٌ مَا خَلَا ظِلَّ الْمُؤْمِنِ فَإِنَّ صَدَقَتَهُ تُظِلُّهُ.
9. Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s.) narrates from his predecessors that the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) said, “The ground of Qiyamat is fire except the shade of a believer. Indeed his Sadaqah shades him.”

وَ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِیِّ بْنِ یَقْطِینٍ عَنْ أَخِیهِ الْحُسَیْنِ عَنْ أَبِیهِ عَنْ أَبِی الْحَسَنِ الْأَوَّلِ ع فِی الرَّجُلِ یَکُونُ عِنْدَهُ الشَّیْ ءُ أَ یَتَصَدَّقُ بِهِ أَفْضَلُ أَمْ یَشْتَرِی بِهِ فَقَالَ الصَّدَقَهُ أَحَبُّ إِلَیَّ.
10. Imam Musa Kadhim (a.s.) was asked, “Is it better for a rich person to give Sadaqah or to buy a slave and free him?” Imam (a.s.) replied, “I prefer Sadaqah.”

وَ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَبِیهِ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ یَحْیَی عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ غَالِبٍ عَمَّنْ حَدَّثَهُ عَنْ أَبِی جَعْفَرٍ ع قَالَ: الْبِرُّ وَ الصَّدَقَهُ یَنْفِیَانِ الْفَقْرَ وَ یَزِیدَانِ فِی الْعُمُرِ وَ یَدْفَعَانِ عَنْ صَاحِبِهَا سَبْعِینَ مِیتَهَ سَوْءٍ.
11. And from the previous chain from Ahmad b. Abi Abdillah from his father from Safwan b. Yahya from Ishaq b. Ghalib from the one the person that narrated to him from Abi Ja’far (a.s.) who said: “Good deeds and Sadaqah keep poverty away, increases life. A person who does good deeds and gives Sadaqah is safe from seventy types of unpleasant deaths.”

أَبِی ره قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سَعْدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِی نَجْرَانَ عَنْ أَبِی جَمِیلَهَ عَنْ جَابِرٍ عَنْ أَبِی جَعْفَرٍ ع قَالَ قَالَ عَلِیُّ بْنُ أَبِی طَالِبٍ ع تَصَدَّقْتُ یَوْماً بِدِینَارٍ قَالَ لِی رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص أَ مَا عَلِمْتَ یَا عَلِیُّ إِنَّ صَدَقَهَ الْمُؤْمِنِ لَا تَخْرُجُ مِنْ یَدَیْهِ حَتَّی یُفَکَّ عَنْهَا عن لُحِیُّ سَبْعِینَ شَیْطَاناً کُلُّهُمْ یأمروه [یَأْمُرُهُ] بِأَنْ لَا تَفْعَلْ وَ مَا یَقَعُ فِی یَدِ السَّائِلِ حَتَّی یَقَعَ فِی یَدِ الرَّبِّ جَلَّ جَلَالُهُ ثُمَّ تَلَا هَذِهِ الْآیَهَ- أَ لَمْ یَعْلَمُوا أَنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ یَقْبَلُ التَّوْبَهَ عَنْ عِبادِهِ وَ یَأْخُذُ الصَّدَقاتِ وَ أَنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِیمُ
12. Imam Muhammad Baqir (a.s.) narrates that Amirul Momineen (a.s.) said that once he gave a dinar as Sadaqah. The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) told him, “O Ali! Don’t you know, that before a believer gives Sadaqah seventy Satans are released and they plead him not to do so. This Sadaqah passes through the hands of Allah before reaching the hands of the beggar.” Then he recited the verse: ‘Don’t you know that only Allah accepts the repentance of the servants and takes Sadaqah. Surely Allah is the Greatest Forgiver and Most Merciful.”

حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُوسَی بْنِ الْمُتَوَکِّلِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی عَلِیُّ بْنُ الْحُسَیْنِ السَّعْدَآبَادِیُّ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَبِیهِ عَنْ خَلَفِ بْنِ حَمَّادٍ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِیلَ الْجَوْهَرِیِّ عَنْ أَبِی بَصِیرٍ عَنْ أَبِی جَعْفَرٍ ع قَالَ: لَأَنْ أَحُجَّ حِجَّهً أَحَبُّ إِلَیَّ مِنْ أَنْ أُعْتِقَ رَقَبَهً حَتَّی انْتَهَی إِلَی عَشَرَهٍ وَ مِثْلِهَا وَ مِثْلِهَا حَتَّی انْتَهَی إِلَی سَبْعِینَ وَ لَأَنْ أَعُولَ أَهْلَ بَیْتٍ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِینَ وَ أُشْبِعَ جَوْعَتَهُمْ وَ أَکْسُوَ عَوْرَتَهُمْ وَ أَکُفَّ وُجُوهَهُمْ عَنِ النَّاسِ أَحَبُّ إِلَیَّ مِنْ أَنْ أَحُجَّ حِجَّهً وَ حِجَّهً وَ حِجَّهً حَتَّی انْتَهَی إِلَی عَشَرَهٍ وَ مِثْلِهَا وَ مِثْلِهَا حَتَّی انْتَهَی إِلَی سَبْعِینَ.
13. It was narrated to me by Muhammad b. Musa b. al-Mutawakil who said it was narrated to me by Ali b. al-Hussain al-Sa’dabadi from Ahmad b. Abi Abdillah from his father from Khalaf b. Hamad from Ismail al-Jawahiri from Abi Basir from Abi Ja’far (a.s.) who said: “I like to feed a Muslim family, clothe them and safeguard their honor instead of going for a Hajj.” Then he went on increasing the number of Hajj by one comparing them with care of a family till he reached ten. Further he increased the number of Hajj in multiples of ten comparing them with care of a family till he reached seventy.

وَ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ: لَوْ جَرَی الْمَعْرُوفُ عَلَی ثَمَانِینَ کَفّاً لَأُجِرُوا کُلُّهُمْ مِنْ غَیْرِ أَنْ یَنْقُصَ مِنْ صَاحِبِهِ مِنْ أَجْرِهِ شَیْئاً.
14. And from the previous chain from Ahmad b. Abi Abdillah from Abi Abdillah (a.s.) who said: “If eighty people do a good deed together each person will get the reward equal to that of all the people without decrease in the reward of any one of them.”
15
وَ عَنْ أَبِی نَهْشَلٍ عَمَّنْ ذَکَرَهُ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص أَفْضَلُ الصَّدَقَهِ صَدَقَهٌ عَنْ ظَهْرِ غِنًی.
15. Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s.) narrates that the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) said, “The Sadaqah given at the time of prosperity is the best Sadaqah.”

أَبِی ره عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِی نَصْرٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَمَاعَهَ عَنِ ابْنِ مِهْرَانَ عَنْ أَبِیهِ عَنْ أَبِی بَصِیرٍ عَنْ أَحَدِهِمَا قَالَ: قُلْتُ لَهُ أَیُّ الصَّدَقَهِ أَفْضَلُ قَالَ جُهْدُ الْمُقِلِّ أَ مَا سَمِعْتَ قَوْلَ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ- وَ یُؤْثِرُونَ عَلی أَنْفُسِهِمْ وَ لَوْ کانَ بِهِمْ خَصاصَهٌ تَرَی هَاهُنَا فَضْلًا.
16. Abi (rah) from Sa’d b. Abdillah from Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Abi Nasr from Muhammad b. Sama’a from Ibn Mihran from his father from Abi Basir from one of them who said: The narrator asked Imam Muhammad Baqir (a.s.) or Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s.), “Which Sadaqah is the best?” Imam (a.s.) replied, “Sadaqah given from a little wealth. Didn’t you hear Allah’s saying: ‘and prefer (them) before themselves though poverty may afflict them’? Do you realize its excellence now?”

أَبِی ره قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سَعْدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَبِیهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِی عُمَیْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع یَقُولُ الصَّدَقَهُ بِالْیَدِ تَدْفَعُ مِیتَهَ السَّوْءِ وَ تَدْفَعُ سَبْعِینَ نَوْعاً مِنَ الْبَلَاءِ وَ تُفَکُّ عَنْ لُحِیِّ سَبْعِینَ شَیْطَاناً کُلُّهُمْ یَأْمُرُونَ أَنْ لَا تَفْعَلْ.
17. It is narrated that Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s.) said, “Giving Sadaqah with hand keeps away unpleasant death. It keeps away seventy types of calamities and opens Satanic mouths all stopping the person from giving Sadaqah.”

أَبِی ره عَنْ عَلِیِّ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِیمَ عَنْ أَبِیهِ عَنِ النَّوْفَلِیِّ عَنِ السَّکُونِیِّ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع عَنْ آبَائِهِ ع قَالَ: سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص أَیُّ الصَّدَقَهِ أَفْضَلُ فَقَالَ عَلَی ذِی الرَّحِمِ الْکَاشِحِ.
18. Abi (rah) from Ali b. Ibrahim from his father from al-Nawfali from al-Sakuni from Abi Abdillah (a.s.) from his forefathers (a.s.) who said: Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s.) narrates from his predecessors that the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) was asked, “Which Sadaqah is better?” The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) replied, “Giving Sadaqah to an inimical relative.”

أَبِی ره عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِیسَی الْیَقْطِینِیِّ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ إِبْرَاهِیمَ عَنْ خَلَفِ بْنِ حَمَّادٍ عَمَّنْ ذَکَرَهُ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ: مَنْ تَصَدَّقَ فِی شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ بِصَدَقَهٍ صَرَفَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ سَبْعِینَ نَوْعاً مِنَ الْبَلَاءِ.
19. Abi (rah) from Sa’d b. Abdillah from Muhammad b. Isa al-Yaqteeni from ’Amru b. Ibrahim from Khalaf b. Hamad from the one who mentioned it from Abi Abdillah (a.s.) who said: “The Almighty Allah keeps seventy calamities away from one who gives Sadaqah in the month of Ramadan.”

أَبِی ره قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سَعْدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِیلَ بْنِ بَزِیعٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عُذَافِرٍ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ یَزِیدَ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ: سُئِلَ عَنِ الصَّدَقَهِ عَلَی مَنْ یَسْأَلُ عَلَی الْأَبْوَابِ أَوْ یُمْسِکُ ذَلِکَ عَنْهُمْ وَ یُعْطِیهِ ذَوِی قَرَابَتِهِ فَقَالَ لَا بَلْ یَبْعَثُ بِهَا إِلَی مَنْ بَیْنَهُ وَ بَیْنَهُ قَرَابَهٌ فَهَذَا أَعْظَمُ لِلْأَجْرِ.
20. My father (rah) said: it was narrated to us by Sa’d b. Abdillah from Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Ismail b. Bazee’ from Muhammad b. Adhafir from ’Amru b. Yazid from Abi Abdillah (a.s.) who said: Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s.) was asked, “Should we give Sadaqah to beggars or to our near relatives?” Imam (a.s.) replied, “Give it to your near relatives for it carries greater reward.”

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الصَّفَّارُ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ أَبِیهِ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُسْکَانَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سُلَیْمَانَ قَالَ: کَانَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ ع إِذَا کَانَ یَوْمُ عَرَفَهَ لَمْ یَرُدَّ سَائِلًا.
21. It was narrated to us by Muhammad b. al-Hassan who said it was narrated to us by Muhammad b. al-Hassan al-Saffar from Ahmad b. Muhammad from his father from Safwan from Abdillah b. Muskan from Abdillah b. Sulayman who said: It is narrated that Imam Muhammad Baqir (a.s.) never used to return any beggar away empty-handed on the day of Arafah.

حَدَّثَنِی مُوسَی بْنُ الْمُتَوَکِّلِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَلِیُّ بْنُ الْحُسَیْنِ السَّعْدَآبَادِیُّ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَبِیهِ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ النَّضْرِ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شِمْرٍ عَنْ جَابِرٍ عَنْ أَبِی جَعْفَرٍ ع قَالَ: الْخَیْرُ وَ الشَّرُّ یُضَاعَفُ یَوْمَ الْجُمُعَهِ.
22. It was narrated to me by Musa b. al-Mutawakil who said it was narrated to us by Ali b. al-Hussain al-Sa’dabadi from Ahmad b. Abi Abdillah from his father from Ahmad b. al-Nadhr from ’Amru b. Shimr from Jabir from Abi Ja’far (a.s.) who said: “The reward and punishment of good deeds and sins respectively has equal weight on Friday.”

وَ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَبِیهِ عَنْ سَعْدَانَ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ قَالَ: أَتَی سَائِلٌ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع عَشِیَّهَ الْخَمِیسِ فَسَأَلَهُ فَرَدَّهُ ثُمَّ الْتَفَتَ إِلَی جُلَسَائِهِ فَقَالَ أَمَا إِنَّ عِنْدَنَا مَا یُتَصَدَّقُ عَلَیْهِ وَ لَکِنَّ الصَّدَقَهَ یَوْمَ الْجُمُعَهِ تُضَاعَفُ أَضْعَافاً.
23. And from the previous chain from Ahmad b. Abi Abdillah from his father from Sa’dan b. Muslim from Abdillah b. Sinan who said: It is narrated that a beggar came to Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s.) on Thursday night. Imam returned him empty-handed and told the people present there, “I had enough money to give him as Sadaqah but Sadaqah given on Friday carries multiple rewards.”
