Muhammad b. al-Hasan b. Ahmad b. al-Walid (ra) narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. al-Hasan al-Saffar narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. `Isa b. `Ubayd narrated to us from Yunus b. `Abd al-Rahman from Abi Jamila from al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad from his forefathers (as). He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) said: Allah said: O My saintly servants! Find felicity in your worship of Me in this world, for you will be delighted by it in Paradise.

Muhammad b. Musa b. al-Mutawakkil (ra) narrated to us. He said: Sa`d b. `Abdullah narrated to us. He said: Ibrahim b. Hashim narrated to us from al-Husayn b. al-Hasan al-Qurashi from Sulayman b. Ja`far al-Basri from `Abdullah b. al-Husayn b. Zayd b. `Ali b. al-Husayn b. `Ali b. Abi Talib from his father from al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad from his father from his forefathers (as). He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) said: O Nation! Surely, Allah has disliked for you to have twenty-four characteristics, and He has prohibited them from you. He has disliked for you: (1) fiddling in prayer, (2) reminding others of your goodwill to them, (3) smiling before graves, (4) browsing the houses [of people without their permission], (5) gazing at the private of women – and he said: it causes blindness – (6) speaking during intercourse – and he said: it causes muteness – (7) sleeping before the final `Isha’, (8) socializing after the final `Isha’, (9) bathing beneath the sky without a cover, (10) intercourse beneath the sky, (11) entering rivers naked – and he said: in the rivers are living quarters of angels – (12) entering the bathhouses naked, (13) speaking between the adhan and the iqama until the prayer has been completed, (14) setting sail in a frenzy, (15) sleeping on a roof that is not plastered – and he said: whoever sleeps on a roof that is not plastered, no one bears responsibility for him – (16) for a man to sleep alone in a house, (17) for a man to have intercourse with his wife while she is menstruating, for if he does so, the child will be leprous, and he will have no one to blame but himself, (18) for a man to have intercourse with a woman after having a wet dream without bathing himself from the dream that he had seen; for if he does that, the child will come to be insane, and he will have no one to blame but himself, (19) for a man to speak to a leper without being an armlength away – and he said: keep away from a leper just as you keep away from a lion – (20) urinating on a flowing river, (21) for a man to speak under a tree that has blossomed or a date palm whose fruits have ripened, (22) for a man to put on his sandals while he is standing, (23) for a man to enter a dark house without a lamp or a candle, and (24) to blow during prayer.

Muhammad b. Majiluwayh (ra) narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Yahya al-`Attar narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. al-Husayn b. Abi’l Khattab narrated to us from Muhammad b. Sinan from `Ammar b. Marwan from Sama`a from Abi `Abdillah al-Sadiq (as). He said: Surely, Allah bestowed gifts upon a community, and they were not thankful, so it became a scourge for them; and He tried a community with afflictions, and they were patient, so it became a blessing for them.

Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Yahya al-`Attar (rh) narrated to us. He said: My father narrated to us from Muhammad b. Ahmad b. Yahya al-Ash`ari from Ya`qub b. Yazid from `Abdullah b. Muhammad al-Mazkharaf from `Ali b. `Uqba from Ibn Bukayr. He said: Al-Hajjaj took two clients of `Ali (as) and said to one of them: Dissociate from `Ali. So, he said: What will happen to me if I do not dissociate from him? He said: May Allah kill me if I do not kill you. So, choose for yourself: do you want your hands severed or your feet? So, the man said to him: Since it is retributive, then you should decide for yourself. He said: By Allah, I see that you have a tongue, but I do not think you comprehend who created you. Where is your Lord? He said: He is on the lookout for every oppressor. So, he called for his hands and feet to be severed, and he crucified him. He said: Then, his other companion came forward. So, he said: What do you say? So, he said: I am of the opinion of my companion. So, he called for his neck to be struck and to be crucified.

My father (ra) narrated to us. He said: Ahmad b. `Ali al-Taflisi narrated to me from Ibrahim b. Muhammad al-Hamadani from Muhammad b. `Ali al-Hadi from `Ali b. Musa al-Rida from Imam Musa b. Ja`far from al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad from al-Baqir Muhammad b. `Ali from the Master of Worshipers `Ali b. al-Husayn from the Master of the Youth of Paradise al-Husayn from the Master of Deputies `Ali (as) from the Masters of Prophets Muhammad (s). He said: Do not look to the plenitude of their prayers, their fasting, their pilgrimages, their good works, and their recitation at night. Look to the honesty of their words and the fulfillment of their trusts.

Al-Husayn b. Ahmad b. Idris (rh) narrated to us. He said: My father narrated to us from Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Khalid from Muhammad b. `Ali al-Kufi from Muhammad b. Sinan from `Isa al-Nahryara from Abi `Abdillah al-Sadiq from his forefathers (as). He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) said: Whomever recognizes Allah and His greatness will prevent his lips from speech and his stomach from food, and will support himself with fasting and standing in prayer. They said: May our mothers and our fathers be your sacrifice, O Messenger of Allah! Are these [who fulfill this prescription] the friends of Allah? He said: Surely, the friends of Allah are silent, and their silence becomes reflection; they talk, and their talk is the remembrance [of Allah]; they observe, and their observation is a lesson; they speak, and their speech is wisdom; they walk, and their walking between the people is a blessing. Were it not for the term destined for them, their spirits would not have settled in their bodies out of fear of punishment and out of desire for reward.

Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Yahya al-`Attar (ra) narrated to us. He said: My father narrated to us from Muhammad b. al-Husayn b. Abi’l Khattab from Muhammad b. Sinan from Abi’l Jarud from Abi Ja`far al-Baqir from his father from his grandfather (as). He said: Amir al-Mu’minin (as) said: …

My father (ra) narrated to us. He said: Al-Hasan b. Ahmad al-Maliki narrated to us from his father from `Ali b. al-Mu’ammal. He said: I met Musa b. Ja`far (as) and he used to dye with red. So, I said: May I be your sacrifice! This is not from the dye of your family. So, he said: Yes, I used to dye with isatis, but it began hurting my teeth. When a man would convert to Islam during the time of the Messenger of Allah (s), he would do that. Once, Amir al-Mu’minin (as) dyed with yellow, and he told the Prophet (s) that, and he said: “Islam.” So, he dyed with red, and he told the Prophet (s) that, and he said: “Islam and faith.” So, he dyed with black, and he told the Prophet (s) that, and he said: “Islam, faith, and light.”

Al-Husayn b. Ibrahim b. Natana (rh) narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. Ibrahim narrated to us from his father from Muhammad b. Abi `Umayr from Hafs b. al-Bakhtari from Abi `Abdillah al-Sadiq (as). He said: Cutting the fingernails and trimming the mustache from Friday to Friday is a protection from leprosy.

`Ali b. `Abdillah al-Warraq narrated to us. He said: Sa`d b. `Abdillah narrated to us from Ibrahim b. Mehzayar from his brother `Ali from al-Husayn b. Sa`id from al-Harith b. Muhammad b. al-Nu`man al-Ahwal Sahib al-Taq from Jamil b. Salih from Abi `Abdillah al-Sadiq (as) from his forefathers (as). He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) said: Whoever would love to be the noblest of people should fear Allah. Whoever would love to be the most Godfearing of people should rely on Allah. Whoever would love to be the richest of people should have more trust in what is with Allah than what is in his hand. Then, he (s) said: Shall I not tell you who is the evilest of people? They said: Of course, O Messenger of Allah. He said: He who hates the people and is hated by the people. Then, he said: Shall I not tell you who is eviller than this? They said: Of course, O Messenger of Allah. He said: He who does not dismiss an offense, nor accept an excuse, nor forgive a trespassing. Then, he (s) said: Shall I not tell you who is eviller than this? They said: Of course, O Messenger of Allah. He said: He from whose evil the people are not safe from, and whose good is not even hoped for. Surely, `Isa b. Maryam (as) stood among the Children of Israel and said: “O Children of Israel! Do not impart wisdom to fools, for you will have oppressed it; and do not prevent it from its people, for you will have oppressed them.” Do not assist an oppressor in his oppression, for that would invalidate your virtue. There are three matters: (1) a matter whose rightness is apparent to you, so follow it; (2) a matter whose misguidance is apparent to you, so avoid it; (3) a matter that is disagreed upon, so relegate that to Allah.

Ja`far b. `Ali b. al-Hasan b. `Ali b. `Abdillah b. al-Mughira al-Kufi (ra) narrated to us. He said: My grandfather al-Hasan b. `Ali narrated to me from his grandfather `Abdullah b. al-Mughira from Isma`il b. Muslim al-Sukuni from al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad from his father from his forefathers (as). He said: The Prophet (s) said: Allah revealed to Dawud: “O Dawud! Just as the Sun does not decrease for he who basks in it, likewise, My mercy does not decrease for he who enters into it. Just as evil omen does not harm he who does not see it, likewise, the disseminators of evil omen will not be saved from the calamity. Just as the closest people to Me on the Day of Resurrection will be the humble, likewise, the furthest people from Me on the Day of Resurrection will be the arrogant.”

My father (rh) narrated to us. He said: Sa`d b. `Abdullah narrated to us. He said: Ahmad b. al-Husayn b. Sa`id narrated to us from Muhammad b. Jamhur al-`Ummi from `Abd al-Rahman b. Abi Najran from `Asim b. Humayd from Muhammad b. Muslim from Abi `Abdillah al-Sadiq (as). He said: Whosoever of our Shi`a maintains forty hadiths, Allah will raise him on the Day of Resurrection as a learned scholar, and He will not punish him.

Ahmad b. al-Hasan al-Qattan narrated to us. He said: `Abd al-Rahman b. Abi Hatim narrated to us. He said: Harun b. Ishaq al-Hamadani narrated to me. He said: `Abda b. Sulayman narrated to me. He said: Kamil b. al-`Ala’ narrated to us. He said: Habib b Abi Thabit narrated to us from Sa`id b. Jubayr from `Abdullah b. `Abbas. He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) said to `Ali b. Abi Talib (as): O `Ali! You are the master of my Pond, my standard bearer, the one who faces my enemies, the beloved of my heart, and the inheritor of my knowledge. You are the place of the inheritance of the prophets. You are the trustee of Allah in His Earth. You are the Proof of Allah over His creatures. You are the pillar of faith, the lantern in the darkness, the light post of guidance, and the raised flag for the people of this world. Whoever follows you is saved, and whoever turns away from you is destroyed. You are the clear road and the Straight Path. You are the Leader of the shining believers. You are the chief of the believers. You are the Master of everyone I am a Master of, and I am the Master of every believing man and woman. None will love you except he who is pure of birth, and none will hate you except he who is impure of birth. My Lord did not raise me up to heaven and speak to me except that He said to me: “O Muhammad! Recite My salaam to `Ali and make him recognize that he is the Imam of My friends and the light of the people of My obedience.” Congratulations to you, `Ali, for this honour.

My father (ra) narrated to us. He said: Sa`d b. `Abdullah narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. al-Husayn b. Abi’l Khattab narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. Asbat narrated to us from `Ali b. Abi Hamza from Abi Basir from al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad (as). He said: O Aba Basir! We are the Tree of Knowledge. We are the people of the Household of the Prophet, and Gabriel descended in our house. We are the treasury of the knowledge of Allah. We are the deposit of the revelation of Allah. Whoever follows us is saved, and whoever turns away from us is destroyed – this is a responsibility on Allah.
