1. My father and Muḥammad ibn Ḥasan both narrated to me from Ḥusain ibn Ḥasan ibn Abān, from Ḥusain ibn Sa’īd, from Faďālah ibn Ayyūb, from Nu’aym ibn Walīd, from Yūsuf Al-Kunāsi, who said: Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) said: When you want to bid farewell to Ḥusain ibn ‘Ali (a.s.), recite (the following): Salām to you and (may) Allāh’s Mercy and Blessings be upon you. I bid farewell to you and I send my Salām to you. Verily we believe in Allāh, in the Messenger (s.a.a.w.), in that which you brought, and in that which you guided (the people) to. We have followed the Messenger (s.a.a.w.), so register us among those who testify. O Allāh! Do not make this our and his last time. O Allāh! We ask You to make us benefit from his love. O Allāh! Resurrect him in a Praised Position where You support Your Religion through him, kill Your enemies through him, and destroy those who wage war against the family of Muḥammad (s.a.a.w.) through him. Verily You promised this to him and You do not break promises. Salām to you and (may) Allāh’s Mercy and Blessings be upon you. I testify that you are the noble martyrs. You fought in the way of Allāh and were killed following the path of the Messenger of Allāh – may Allāh’s blessing and Salām be upon him and his family. You are the foremost, those who left their homes, and the supporters. I testify that you are the supporters of Allāh and the supporters of His Messenger (s.a.a.w.). Praise be to Allāh who fulfilled His promise to you and showed you that which you love, and may Allāh’s Mercy and Blessings be upon Muḥammad and the family of Muḥammad. O Allāh! Do not make me preoccupied with this world such that I neglect thanking You for Your blessings. Do not give me too many (worldly blessings) such that I become fond of its wondering happiness and such that I become charmed by its shining decorations. Do not give me too little such that my good deeds are affected by working too hard for this world and such that I continuously worry about it. Give me enough so that I do not need the evil ones from Your creation and enough that I can attain Your pleasure, O Most Merciful of the merciful ones. May Allāh’s Mercy and Blessings be upon His Messenger, Muḥammad ibn ‘Abdillāh, and upon his Righteous and Blessed family. The above Ḥadīth has also been narrated to me through the following chains: A) My father, ‘Ali ibn Ḥusain and Muḥammad ibn Ḥasan, from Sa’d ibn ‘Abdillāh, from Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn ‘Isā, from Ḥusain ibn Sa’īd, from Faďālah ibn Ayyūb, from Nu’aym ibn Walīd, from Yūsuf Al-Kunāsi, from Abī ‘Abdillāh (a.s.). 2. Abū ‘Abdil Raḥmān Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad ibn Ḥusain Al-‘Askari narrated to me in ‘Askar Mukram, from Ḥasan ibn ‘Ali ibn Mahziyār, from his father, from Muḥammad ibn Abī ‘Umayr, from Muḥammad ibn Marwān, from Abī Ḥamzah Al-Thumāli, who said: Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) said: When you decide to bid farewell after having performed the Ziyārah (of Ḥusain (a.s.)), recite as many Ziyārah(s) as you can. Ensure that you choose Naynawā or Qāďiriyyah as your residence. Before bidding farewell, perform a Ghusl and perform the farewell Ziyārah. Once you have finished reciting the Ziyārah, turn your face towards his face, touch the grave, and recite (the following): Salām to you, O Walī of Allāh. Salām to you, O Abā ‘Abdillāh. You are my protection from the chastisement (of the Hereafter). This is the time for me to leave you although I am not abandoning you, I am not replacing you with anyone other than you, nor am I giving preference to anyone else above you. I have not lost the desire to be near you. I have put myself in danger (by traveling to you) and have left my family and homeland (to come to you). Therefore, be there for me on the day of my need, poverty, and indigence; the day when my parents, my children, my intimate friends, my companions, and my relatives will not help me. I ask Allāh, who willed and created, to remove my anguish through you and I ask Allāh, who willed for me to be parted from your site, not to make this the last time I come (to your Ziyārah) and to allow me to return. I ask Allāh, who made my eyes cry over you, to make this crying my support (on the Day of Judgment). And I ask Allāh, who made me travel to you from my home and family, to keep this Ziyārah reserved for me. I ask Allāh, who showed me your place and guided me to say Salām to you and to perform your Ziyārah, to allow me to come to your Pool and to sustain me with accompanying you in the Heavens along with your Righteous Fathers – may Allāh’s blessing be upon all of them. Salām to you, O Allāh’s Chosen One and son of His Chosen One. Salām upon the Messenger of Allāh, Muḥammad ibn ‘Abdillāh, Allāh’s Love and His Chosen One, His Trustee and His Messenger, and the Master of the Prophets. Salām upon the Commander of the Believers, the Successor of the Messenger of the Lord of the Worlds and the Leader of those with Shining Faces (on the Day of Judgment). Salām upon the Righteous and Rightly Guided Imams. Salām to those of you (Imams) who are in the Ḥā`ir and (may) Allāh’s Mercy and Blessings be upon you. Salām upon Allāh’s Angels who remain here sanctifying (Allāh) and who are residents (in the Ḥā`ir), the angels who fulfill the orders of their Lord. Salām upon us and upon Allāh’s Righteous Slaves and praise is due to Allāh, the Lord of the Worlds. Then recite (the following): Salām of Allāh and Salām of His High-Ranked Angels, His prophets who were sent as messengers, and His Righteous Slaves be upon you, O son of the Messenger of Allāh, and upon your soul, your body, your progeny, and upon those of your friends who were with you. . I bid farewell to you and leave you in the care of Allāh and I send my Salām to you. We believe in Allāh, in His Messenger, and in the message which he brought from Allāh. O Allāh! Register us among those who testify. Then recite (the following): O Allāh! Send Your blessing on Muḥammad and the family of Muḥammad and do not make this the last time I come to the Ziyārah of the son of Your Messenger. Sustain me with (coming to) his Ziyārah (repeatedly) for as long as You keep me alive. O Allāh! Make me benefit from his love, O Lord of the Worlds. O Allāh! Resurrect him in a Praised Position. Verily You have power over all things. O Allāh! After having established prayers and having said Salām (to them), I ask You to send Your blessing on Muḥammad and the family of Muḥammad and I ask You not to make this the last time I come to his Ziyārah. O Lord! If You do make it (my last Ziyārah), then resurrect me with him, with his fathers, and his (true) followers. And if You keep me alive, then sustain me with coming to his Ziyārah again and again with Your Mercy, O Most Merciful of the merciful ones. O Allāh! Appoint for me a truthful tongue with Your Divine Authorities and make me love their sites. O Allāh! Send Your blessing on Muḥammad and the family of Muḥammad and do not make me preoccupied with too many blessings of this world such that I neglect Your remembrance. Do not give me too many (worldly blessings) such that I become fond of its wondering happiness and such that I become charmed by its shining decorations. (Also) do not give me too little such that my good deeds are affected by working too hard for this world and such that I continuously worry about it. Give me enough so that I do not need the evil ones from Your creation and enough that I can attain Your pleasure, O Most Merciful. Salām to you, O Allāh’s Angels and the Zuwwār of the grave of Abī ‘Abdillāh (a.s.). Then place your right and left cheek on the grave and insist on praying and asking for your needs. Do not turn your back to the grave while leaving until you exit (the Ḥā`ir).
