However, praying anywhere else in Madīnah is just like praying in any other city.”

Imam (a.s.) replied: The Messenger of Allāh (s.a.a.w.) has said: One Salāt in my mosque is equal to one thousand prayers elsewhere, and one Salāt in MASJID AL-ḤARĀM is equal to one thousand prayers in my mosque. Then Imam (a.s.) continued: Verily Allāh has given preference to Makkah over other cities, and He has given preference to (specific) areas (of Makkah) over other areas in it by saying, “Take for yourselves a place of prayer on the standing-place of Ibrāhīm” (2:125). Allāh has also given preference to some people over others, and in His Book He has ordered people to follow them and to love them.
