Ĥusain (a.s.): “The Martyr of Tears” No Believer Mentions Him Without Crying

1 حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي (رحمه الله) وَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ وَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ رَحِمَهُمُ اللَّهُ جَمِيعاً عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جَنَاحٍ عَنْ أَبِي يَحْيَى الْحَذَّاءِ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (ع) قَالَ نَظَرَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ (ع) إِلَى الْحُسَيْنِ فَقَالَ يَا عَبْرَةَ كُلِّ مُؤْمِنٍ فَقَالَ أَنَا يَا أَبَتَاهْ قَالَ نَعَمْ يَا بُنَيَّ
1. My father, ‘Ali ibn Ḥusain, and Muḥammad ibn Ḥasan all narrated to me from Sa’d ibn ‘Abdillāh, from Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn ‘Isā, from Sa’īd ibn Janāḥ (Al-Azdi), from Abī Yaḥyā Al-Ḥadhā, from some of our companions, who said: Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) said: The Commander of the Believers (a.s.) looked at Ḥusain (a.s.) and said, “O ‘ABRAH (tear) of every believer!” Ḥusain (a.s.) asked, “O father! Are you referring to me?” The Commander of the Believers (a.s.) replied, “Yes! O my son!”

2 حَدَّثَنِي جَمَاعَةُ مَشَايِخِي عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى الْعَطَّارِ عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ عَنْ أَبِي عُمَارَةَ الْمُنْشِدِ قَالَ مَا ذُكِرَ الْحُسَيْنُ (ع) عِنْدَ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (ع) فِي يَوْمٍ قَطُّ فَرُئِيَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (ع) مُتَبَسِّماً فِي ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمِ إِلَى اللَّيْلِ وَ كَانَ (ع) يَقُولُ الْحُسَيْنُ (ع) عَبْرَةُ كُلِّ مُؤْمِنٍ

All of my scholars narrated to me from Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyā Al-‘Aťťār, from Ḥusain ibn ‘Abdillāh, from Ḥasan ibn ‘Ali ibn Abī ‘Uthmān, from Ḥasan ibn ‘Ali ibn ‘Abdillāh ibn Mughīrah, from Abī ‘Umārah Al-Munshid, who said: Whenever Ḥusain (a.s.) was mentioned in front of Abī ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) during the day, he would not be seen smiling until nightfall. Imam (a.s.) used to say, “Ḥusain (a.s.) is the tear of every believer!”

3 حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ مُوسَى الْخَشَّابِ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ مِهْرَانَ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (ع) قَالَ الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ (ع) أَنَا قَتِيلُ الْعَبْرَةِ لَا يَذْكُرُنِي مُؤْمِنٌ إِلَّا اسْتَعْبَرَ
3. My father narrated to me from Sa’d ibn ‘Abdillāh, from Ḥasan ibn Mūsā Al-Khashāb, from Ismā’īl ibn Mihrān, from ‘Ali ibn Abī Ḥamzah, from Abī Basīr, who said: Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) said: Ḥusain ibn ‘Ali (a.s.) said, “I am the Martyr of Tears. No believer remembers me without crying.”

4 حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي (رحمه الله) عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ مُوسَى عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ جَابِرٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (ع) قَالَ قَالَ الْحُسَيْنُ (ع) أَنَا قَتِيلُ الْعَبْرَةِ
4. My father narrated to me from Sa’d ibn ‘Abdillāh, from Ḥasan ibn Mūsā, from Muḥammad ibn Sinān, from Ismā’īl ibn Jābir, who said: Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) said: Ḥusain (a.s.) said, “I am the Martyr of Tears.”

5 حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ الرَّزَّازُ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ عَنِ الْحَكَمِ بْنِ مِسْكِينٍ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (ع) قَالَ قَالَ الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ أَنَا قَتِيلُ الْعَبْرَةِ
5. Muḥammad ibn Ja’far Al-Razzāz narrated to me from Muḥammad ibn Ḥusain, from Ḥakam ibn Miskīn, from Abī Basīr, who said: Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) said: Ḥusain ibn ‘Ali (a.s.) said, “I am the Martyr of Tears.”

6 حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ الصَّفَّارِ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْبَرْقِيِّ عَنْ أَبَانٍ الْأَحْمَرِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ الْخَزَّازِ عَنْ هَارُونَ بْنِ خَارِجَةَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (ع) قَالَ كُنَّا عِنْدَهُ فَذَكَرْنَا الْحُسَيْنَ ع وَ عَلَى قَاتِلِهِ لَعْنَةُ اللَّهِ فَبَكَى أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (ع) وَ بَكَيْنَا قَالَ ثُمَّ رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ فَقَالَ قَالَ الْحُسَيْنُ (ع) أَنَا قَتِيلُ الْعَبْرَةِ لَا يَذْكُرُنِي مُؤْمِنٌ إِلَّا بَكَى وَ ذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ
6. Muḥammad ibn Ḥasan narrated to me from Muḥammad ibn Ḥasan Al-Saffār, from Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn ‘Isā, from Muḥammad ibn Khālid Al-Barqi, from Abān Al-Aḥmar, from Muḥammad ibn Ḥusain Al-Khazzāz, from Hārūn ibn Khārijah, who said: We were with Abī ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) and we mentioned Ḥusain (a.s.) – May Allāh’s curse be upon his killers. Abū ‘Abdillāh (a.s.) started to cry and we cried with him. Then he raised his head and said, “Ḥusain (a.s.) said, ‘I am the Martyr of Tears. No believer remembers me without crying.”

7 حَدَّثَنِي عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ السَّعْدَآبَادِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْبَرْقِيُّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ مُسْكَانَ عَنْ هَارُونَ بْنِ خَارِجَةَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (ع) قَالَ قَالَ الْحُسَيْنُ (ع) أَنَا قَتِيلُ الْعَبْرَةِ قُتِلْتُ مَكْرُوباً وَ حَقِيقٌ عَلَيَّ أَنْ لَا يَأْتِيَنِي مَكْرُوبٌ قَطُّ إِلَّا رَدَّهُ اللَّهُ وَ أَقْلَبَهُ إِلَى أَهْلِهِ مَسْرُوراً حَدَّثَنِي حَكِيمُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو عَنْ هَارُونَ بْنِ خَارِجَةَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (ع) مِثْلَهُ
7. ‘Ali ibn Ḥusain Al-Sa’dābādi narrated to me from Aḥmad ibn Abī ‘Abdillāh Al-Barqi, from his father, from Ibn Muskān, from Hārūn ibn Khārjah, who said: Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq (a.s.)) said: Ḥusain (a.s.) said, “I am the Martyr of Tears. I will be killed while I am in anguish. Verily anyone who comes to me (my Ziyārah) while he is in anguish is worthy of being returned to his family by Allāh with his heart pleased.” The above Ḥadīth has also been narrated to me through the following chain: Ḥukaim ibn Dāwūd, from Salamah ibn Khaťťāb, from Muḥammad ibn ‘Amr, from Hārūn ibn Khārijah, from Abī ‘Abdillāh (a.s.).
